Dressing Around Your Firearm
Warmer weather is right around the corner. Thoughts on packing a smaller gun or heaven help us, not packing a personal protection firearm at all, linger in the back of our minds. Hiding a service sized auto or revolver is not impossible or even hard to do, with a little forethought and planning. I know lots of folks, of all shapes and sizes that carry large guns well concealed on a daily basis. For men at least, concealment clothing has gotten much easier to acquire as fashion trends have relaxed and broadened to allow untucked shirts to be the societal norm. Shirts like a Hawaiian, Guayabera , or the Wilderness made Sonoran will allow you to conceal a service sized pistol. Especially when using a close fitting holster like the Cuda or Tribute with Inside Out straps. The best place I have found to carry a service sized firearm is right behind my strong side hip bone. Even on a big guy like me has a slight hollow there and a properly holstered pistol rides very comfortably from the moment I get up until I go to bed. Whenever you try out a new holster gun & shirt or vest for concealment, it helps to not only look in the mirror to see if it prints, but have your spouse give you the once over. He or she can let you know if the gun protrudes or prints. Warning on coats vest and un tucked shirts: It is easy for the tail to ride up over the grip of the gun exposing your firearm... NOT acceptable. Be constantly aware of the opposition and attitude of your holstered gun. When you sit down does the grip frame stick out? Did your vest just ride up over the top of your grip as you bent down to tie your shoe? Another thing to avoid; grabbing your holstered gun through your clothes to adjust or secure it. |
