What's on at the Market - September 15 & 22, 2011

Pet-Friendly EnvironmentThere is something different happening each week at the Caledon Farmers' Market, and at this time of year our vendors' booths are overflowing with fresh and colourful local produce, meats, baked goods, honey and many other delectable foods and treats.

 

The Market is also an ideal shopping location for a variety of crafts, artwork, jewellery and a variety of other items.

 

There are weekly activities for children in our Market Sprouts Club as well as regularly scheduled culinary demonstrations and live entertainment. 

 

The Market is also pet-friendly, making it a great outing for the entire family.

 

See below for a summary of what to expect at the Caledon Farmers' Market over the next two weeks:

 

September 15, 2011 - Lamb

NOTE: The Market will be relocated to the soccer fields next to the ABCC parking lot for this day only.

    for sale - proceeds will go to Caledon Meals on Wheels
  • Eat Local Caledon will be offering FREE Chocolate Crêpe recipes

Featured Recipe: Corn & Black Bean Salsa
If you attended the Caledon Farmers' Market on September 1st you would have had an opportunity to sample a delicious Corn & Black Bean salsa recipe. 
 
However, if you were not able to attend we are pleased to share the recipe below.

 

It is very simple to prepare and works well as snack with crackers or tortilla chips, or as an accompaniment with a variety of dishes.

 

Corn & Black Bean Salsa

CornIngredients:
  • 1 (15 oz.) can black beans (rinsed and drained)
  • 2 or 3 average sized ears of corn
  • 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • 8 small green onions - chopped (use some of the stem also)
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 small green chili chopped
Preparation:
  1. Cook corn, cut the kernels off the cob and place in a bowl.
  2. Mix in other ingredients and let stand in refrigerator for a couple of hours to allow flavours to blend.
  3. Enjoy
