| Cuisine-Art at the Historic Alton Mill - July 16 & 17, 2011 | |
|
The Hills of Headwaters region is gaining a reputation as a popular tourist destination - and for good reason.
Some come to visit the area's many historic properties or find inspiration within the thriving arts community. Others are drawn by the promise of exceptional culinary experiences or the rustic natural beauty of the landscape.
These are but a few of the many reasons why visitors and residents love this area, and on July 16 and 17, 2011 the Historic Alton Mill is hosting yet another - which will have a special appeal to those who appreciate fine art and delectable fare.
The 3rd Annual Cuisine-Art event will feature two full days of activities, including: art exhibits, studio tours, a market place, culinary demonstrations by award-winning local chefs, food and drink tastings - including cider from Caledon Farmers Market vendor Spirit Tree Estate Cidery.
Proceeds raised from this event will be in support of the Alton Millpond Rehabilitation Fund.

| Featured Recipe - Strawberry Salsa | |
|
The following recipe is for the delicious "Make-Your-Own" Strawberry Salsa that was featured by Eat Local Caledon during the June 30, 2011 Market day.
It is extremely easy to make and the main ingredients can be produced locally.
Ingredients: - half a medium red onion
- quarter cup of finely-shredded cilantro leaves
- one cup fresh strawberries - hulled and chopped
- quarter cup fresh orange juice
- two tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- two tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Preparation: - Wash and chop onion, cilantro and strawberries and place in a mixing bowl.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix together.
- Serve with tortilla chips or crackers. It also matches very nicely with chicken or fish.
- Enjoy!!
TIP: Given that this is such a simple and versatile dish, you can easily add your favourite ingredients like chopped bell peppers, green onions or garlic to alter the colour, texture and flavour to your particular preferences. |
