After months of planning, Opening Day for the 2011 Caledon Farmers' Market is Thursday, June 16, 2011!
Given the quality and diversity of the vendors that have registered, this year's Market is shaping up to be the best one yet.
Special events on the opening day will include: a culinary demonstration by "Freshalicious" author Stacey Fokas, an interactive Make-Your-Own salad dressing activity with Eat Local Caledon, children's arts, crafts and face painting, and the launch of the Caledon Public Library's Summer Reading Club.
Mayor Marolyn Morrison and MPP Sylvia Jones will also be on hand to cut and serve the opening day cake.
This year's Caledon Farmers' Market will also feature the "Market Sprouts Club"; a new program that will enable children up to 12-years of age to earn rewards while learning about food and participating in fun and educational food-related activities. There is no charge to enter this program.
The Market's Advisory Group has also been hard at work to ensure there are plenty of activities available for kids and grown-ups alike throughout the Market season.
For more information about the Market, to sign up for The Market Message e-newsletter or visit its Facebook profile page, please see the Caledon Farmers' Market webpage at: www.caledon.ca/farmersmarket. |

3rd Annual Cuisine-Art Festival at the Historic Alton Mill - July 16-17, 2011 | | |
The Town of Caledon is often described as a "community of communities", due to the many towns, villages and hamlets that fall within its expansive 700 square kilometre borders.
Each of these communities can boast its own unique history, character and (in some cases) landscape and architecture - all of which provide ample reason for tourists to flock to the region each year.
The Village of Alton, nestled in the beautiful rolling Hills of Headwaters, was once the beating heart of Upper Canada's industrial manufacturing industry due to the many water-driven mills that flourished there in the mid to late-1800s.
Today Alton is known for its thriving arts community and on July 16 and 17, 2011 the Historic Alton Mill will be hosting the 3rd Annual Cuisine-Art Festival, which will feature a blend the region's exceptional culinary talent with artistic displays and performances.
For more information on this event, visit: www.altonmill.ca/events.html.

| UPDATE: Bolton Community Improvement Plan (CIP) | | |

On April 5, 2011 Caledon Council adopted a report which will see the approval authority for CIP Financial Incentive Grant Programs be delegated to the Treasurer. The Treasurer will only approve applications that have received unanimous recommendation from the CIP Review Panel.
This will reduce the processing time of completed Grant Applications to approximately two weeks. The Financial Incentive Grant Programs provide an opportunity for the Town of Caledon to promote redevelopment, revitalization and beautification in the community.
Therefore, there is a great potential benefit for Bolton's industrial and commercial property and business owners who apply for the CIP Grant Programs to assist with the cost of their improvement projects.
For more information regarding the Bolton CIP, CLICK HERE, or contact Sandra Dolson, Economic Development Officer at sandra.dolson@caledon.ca or by calling 905.584.2272 x4152. |
