2010: A Look Back

2010: A Look Back2010 has been a remarkable year. From cheering on Team Canada (which included Caledon residents) at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February and March, to all the buzz around the Municipal election, there was plenty to talk about.

2010 was also a busy year on the Economic Development front. Given this is the last issue of The Business Report for this year, we would like to take a look back at some of the many notable events and highlights from this past year:
  • In February the Town won two (2) Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) "Awards of Merit" for launching the Caledon Farmers' Market and for the launch of the Bolton Community Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • This newsletter - The Business Report - debuted in April and subsequently won an Economic Development Association of Canada (EDAC) "Marketing Canada" award in September.
  • In May, the Mayor's Business Breakfast featured a keynote address by Alan Maclauchlan; a Caledon resident, two-time Canadian Olympic Bobsled pilot. Alan is also the Director of Insights Learning & Development and shared his insights into the role that individual and group personalities play in various leadership styles.
  • The Caledon Farmers' Market re-opened on June 17 and ended a successful second season on October 17. The Market also launched a Facebook profile page, which was the Town's first foray into the world of Social Media.
  • In September, the Caledon Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC) opened for business at the Caledon Community Services (CCS) office to provide support services for entrepreneurs and small businesses in Caledon. The official Grand Opening occurred in November.
  • According to the Q3 2010 MarketView Report published by CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), Caledon's industrial property vacancy rate dropped from 22.1% in Q2 to just 7.7% in Q3. This demonstrates a tremendous amount of industrial property absorption since 2009 when the vacancy rate was 35%.
  • And, in November the Town launched its Caledon Business Survey, which is designed to collect feedback from Caledon-based business owners/managers regarding the current local business climate.  The survey will remain open through December and the results will be tabulated, shared and integrated in the Economic Development strategy for 2011 and beyond.
There will be plenty more to share in 2011.

The Town of Caledon's Economic Development Department would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a festive and safe holiday season, and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Caledon Business Survey Still Open

Caledon Economic Development DepartmentWe have received excellent response so far to the Caledon Business Survey. However, the more feedback the better. Therefore, we are keeping the survey open for a few extra weeks.

We are looking for insight from Caledon-based business owners and managers to help us identify current priorities and develop the best possible strategies and actions that will keep the local economy moving forward.

We value your input. So, if you own and/or operate a business in Caledon, this is your opportunity to provide the Town's Economic Development Department with your suggestions.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to take a few moments to participate in this brief survey by CLICKING HERE.

All responses are collected anonymously, and we encourage as much detail as you are willing to share. More detail will ensure an accurate "in the trenches" account of Caledon's current business climate.

This survey will remain active until December 23, 2010.

After this date the results will be tabulated, made public, and integrated into Caledon's Economic Development Strategy for 2011.

Thank-you for your assistance.
