| Vendors at the Caledon Farmers' Market | | |
Whether food or crafts, at the Caledon Farmers' Market we are fortunate to have vendors selling the highest quality products. In each newsletter we'll feature three of our vendors.
Arthur Greenhouses
Joanna Baars and Patrick van den Eijnden started Arthur Greenhouses in 2007 after they immigrated with their family from the Netherlands ~ where they made their living producing a variety of cut-flowers, field-grown perennials and pumpkins for over 10 years.
Nowadays, Joanna and Patrick grow quality annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, planters, fresh produce, shrubs, evergreens, trees, pumpkins and cut-flowers. They also offer landscaping and garden maintenance services.
Every Thursday they bring a selection of their plants to the Caledon Farmers' Market. The load in their hard-to-miss yellow trailer depends on seasonal availability and interest, but you will always find a friendly smile and helpful gardening advice.
Final Touch (aka K&M Design)
Krystle Copeland and Mackenzie Bisset are two creative individuals with a passion for beautiful and handmade things.
With backgrounds in fashion and the fine arts, they take inspiration from their surroundings to create stunning items and décor for your home, wedding, or other life events! The Final Touch started as a creative outlet for two friends, and has blossomed into an online store and local services. They specialize in handmade items, wedding and baby shower décor and set-up, and personalized gifts such as paintings.
Palgrave Environment Committee
The Palgrave Environment Committee was formed in April 2007 and since that time has received two local hero awards for its initiatives towards sustainable community dinners that use local food and support local farmers.
At the Caledon Farmers' Market they sell fair trade organic coffee and chocolate, which supports overseas farming co-operatives, as well as freshly baked pies and tarts and local, seasonally-available produce that has been grown in Palgrave. Market produce includes rhubarb, garlic, potatoes, pumpkins, herbs, sunflowers and a variety of other flowers.

It is low in calories and contains useful amounts of folate, potassium, vitamin A and manganese, making it a wise addition for any diet.
Zucchini can be yellow, green or light green, and generally have a similar shape to a ridged cucumber, though a few varieties are available in round or bottle shapes.
Below is a simple yet delicious summer recipe for a salsa you would be proud to serve to anyone - or to keep all to yourself.

| Did You Know? | | |
Ontario exports more agri-food products than any other province - mostly to US markets.
North Americans have the lowest grocery bills in the world, and Canadians spend an average of 12.4% of their income on food.
Organic Farming is the fastest growing agriculture sector in Canada, though currently most organic goods sold in Canada are imported! The exception to this... Organic Dairy Products.
Approximately 180,000 people live on Ontario farms and that 92% of Ontario's farms are family owned and operated.
If just $5 per Caledon resident was spent on locally grown and/or produced foods each week, over $1.2 million per month, (and nearly $15 million per year), would be injected into the local economy. |
