"Knocking Down Silos" Event - Thursday, May 20, 2010

BBBC of Peel LogoBig Brothers Big Sisters of Peel is pleased to present "Knocking Down Silos" - an entertaining and informative look at managing people. It will be presented by Dave Howlett, Founder and Managing Director of Real Human Being, and will take place at the Mississauga Convention Centre from 7:15am to 9:30am on Thursday, May 20th.

This is a must attend event for any company, organization or individual that is challenged by politics, "silos" or turf-wars.

Mr. Howlett has lectured to Human Resources, Marketing and Finance executives from Hong Kong to Europe on the importance of reputation, networking and corporate culture.

Managers have traditionally been taught that the "carrot and stick" approach is essential for managing behaviour and building corporate culture. However, recent studies have revealed that people can be more effectively motivated by a stronger intrinsic reward system - which is separate from traditional "external" reward and punishment systems and practices.

This "3rd gear" attitude knocks down behaviour divisions within companies and communities, increases employee engagement and reinforces our need to "do the right thing."

You are invited to visit www.realhumanbeing.com to view a video preview.

Cost is $30 per person and includes a hot buffet breakfast. Proceeds from this event will go directly toward children and youth mentoring programs and services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel.

Hills of Headwaters Tourism Drops Membership Requirement

HHTA LogoThe Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association (HHTA) has been working on behalf of its municipal partners (Caledon, Dufferin, Orangeville, Shelburne, Mono and Erin) and tourism members since 1994 to promote tourism as a viable economic sector, and to attract more visitors to the Hills of Headwaters region.

At this year's Annual Strategic Planning Session the HHTA embarked on a thoughtful analysis of its tourism service delivery model. They reviewed ways to continue to represent the interests of the municipal partners and regional tourism operators as a sustainable business model.

As a result, the HHTA decided to move to a more inclusive service delivery model that represents ALL tourism operators and businesses within the region - instead of the membership-based model it had followed since it was formed.

The new model took effect on April 1, 2010.

This change in structure allows the HHTA to grow and expand its role as the primary marketing/promotional agent for the Hills of Headwaters region, and focus on positioning Caledon, Dufferin and Erin as a premier tourism destination within the provincial landscape.

Marketing services are now available on a "pay-for-use" basis at very competitive rates and provide the same services that had previously been limited to HHTA members. This allows development and expansion of the marketing opportunities that will be available to all tourism operators and businesses in the region, based on demand and interest.

For more information about the HHTA and how it can help promote your business, call 519-942-0314 or e-mail: info@thehillsofheadwaters.com.

Reaching International Markets with the GTMA
The Town of Caledon's reputation as "the natural course of business" continues to extend well-beyond Canadian borders.

GTMA LogoFor the past 11 years, the Town has been a member of the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance (GTMA). In recognizing the benefits from the joint venture activities and programs of the GTMA, Caledon Council recently approved continuing the Town's membership and the formalization of an International Marketing Services Agreement.

As a member, Caledon benefits from the GTMA's international marketing and promotion programs. Additionally, the GTMA acts as the primary contact for foreign business delegations and tours to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), provides access to sector-specific research reports, and offers opportunities for networking and professional development.

"As with the other municipal partners, Caledon endorses the principle that the Greater Toronto Area is a globally-recognized destination," noted Mayor Marolyn Morrison.  "Working as a partner in the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance gives Caledon a stronger voice and presence in attracting foreign direct investment."

The GTMA was founded in 1997 for the specific purpose of enhancing the international marketing of the GTA. The GTMA, a not-for-profit corporation, serves as the key point of contact for foreign businesses exploring location opportunities in the GTA.

Caledon's membership aligns with the 2008-2012 Caledon Economic Development Strategy of engaging in business attraction programs designed to encourage investment in key target sectors and clusters.
