Hard to believe it is August and summer is almost over.  Back to school sales are already in the stores.  It isn't too early to think of Christmas projects.  Stop by the shop for some gift ideas, or consider taking one of the classes below for a quick hand made gift.
 
PS Did anyone loose an expensive Dodge car key this winter? One was found in the driveway.
 
What's New

Three new books have arrived at the shop.  New England Knits by Cecily Glowik Mac Donald and Melissa La Barre.  This is a collection of timeless knitwear with a modern twist.  Gifted by Mags Kandis.  This book has 34 wonderful little projects to knit or crochet and 4 tempting recipes, yes recipes. And, Crochet so Fine exquisite designs with fine yarns, with this book you can make modern and fashionable crocheted clothing. All three books are from Interweave Press.
 
We have received new lace yarn from Brown Sheep called Legacy Lace.  It is 75% washable wool and 25% nylon and available in 7 beautiful colors.
 
Complimenting our lace yarn is ecco cashmere, 100% cashmere, from Plymouth Earth.

Pre-registration is required for all classes.
 
Heart Sachet or Ornament class - Monday morning, Aug. 9th from 10:00 - 11:30.   Class fee is $10, plus materials.  Teacher is Cathy Benecke.  You will learn to make a small darling heart for sachet or a Christmas ornament.  Excellent stocking stuffer.
 
Gelato Felted Bag - Tuesday evening, Aug 10th from 7:00-8:00pm.   Class fee is $10 plus materials. Teacher is Cathy Benecke.  Learn to make a small purse with button closure that you will be able to felt.  Stop in and see the cute samples we have.  
 
Thrummed Mitten Class - Tuesday morning, Aug 10, from 10 to noon. Class fee $15, plus materials. Teacher is Nan Bloch. These are warm and wonderful mittens. Knit using a bulky wool yarn and stuffed with heavenly fleece, they are fun to make and fun to wear.
 
Knit Your Way to Financial Security - A Five Step Program, Friday, August 6 from 5:00 to 9:00. In this special series of workshops you will have the opportunity to discuss stressful financial concerns with an expert while you knit to relax your nerves. Our guest expert is Margaret Brennan from David A. Noyes, a Chicago Investment firmf who just happens to be my financially savvy sister. Cost is $15 to cover the cost of the meal (Claire is catering!). Red Oak Designs presents North Woods Afghan - Monday, August 16, 9:00-10:30 or 6:30 to 8:00pm.  Teacher is Claire.  Class fee is $10.00 per session plus materials. You can attend one or all of the sessions but you must preregister at least by the Friday before each session.
 
Double-ended Crohook Prayer Shawl - A beautiful and interesting method of crocheting that produces a two-sided, two-color look. Tuesday, September 7,
from 10-noon. Teacher is Carol Ruplinger, fee is $15 plus materials.
Material: 4 skeins of Encore worsted (2 each of 2 colors) and a J or K long crohook.
Students receive 10% off supplies.
 
Christmas vest - Tuesday, Sept 21st,  10:00 - 11:30.  Teacher is Liz.  Class fee $15.00 plus materials.  Follow up classes for help could be scheduled.  This is a cute novelty vest for the Holiday season.  Stop by and see a sample in the shop.

Northwoods Knitters and Purlers Workshop - August 28th, Amy Detjen will be teaching "Tips and Tricks of the Trade -- The Sequel", at the Woodruff Community Center.  Stop in for further information.

Stitches Midwest  August 19-22. Schaumburg IL convention center - one exit west of the O'Hare airport. 
 
Driftless Area Fibre Arts Faire in Mineral Point, WI. Dates are 9/24-9/26 - workshops, vendors, sheep shearing, dog trials and much more.
Tip of the Month

For Felting without a Washer:  Get a clean bucket, a new toilet (or sink) plunger, and very hot water.  Add a little soap to the mix and plunge strenuously until your project is felted to your liking.  Sounds like a good stress reliever....
