NetPosse at Ohio Equine Affaire
Take a look at pictures and people at our booth in April at the Ohio Equine Affaire. The event gives Stolen Horse International a chance to reach out to many who do not know we are here and to meet many victims and volunteers who do.
It is important to put a "face" to the organization and events like this are an important part of our educational program.

Leo is finally home -- owner was too trusting
ORLANDO, Florida, by Ellen Rosenberg--Taryn Campana, who lives near Orlando, has a soft spot for horses in need. If she has room, she takes in horses who need help, one at a time, rehabs them, and then finds them a permanent home. She had one open space a year and a half ago, when Clayton, her teenage son, spotted a picture of Leo.
"We just fell in love with him," Taryn recalled. Leo was eight or nine years old, a 16.2hh gray Thoroughbred jumper. He was not in good shape."He had been kept in a very wet pasture, so his feet had basically rotted," Taryn said. "He was also underweight, which is typical of horses in need. He also had a lot of issues under the saddle. He was a puppy dog to handle and work around, but try to ride him -- he'd buck and rear. He was very defensive, a real problem child. Obviously, something had happened to him."
So Leo came to stay. Taryn had a farrier work on his feet, but that was going to take a long time to fix -- hooves grow slowly. Leo gained weight and started learning to trust people on his back. A little. Then things got complicated. Real the full story on how Leo's owner was duped...

NC family reunited with horse lost in storm
WILLOW SPRING, North Carolina( www.wral.com) 4/22/2011--WRAL News viewers helped reunite a 5-year-old Willow Springs girl six days after her horse had gone missing when storms rampaged across North Carolina a week ago. High winds blew down the fences around the pasture where Buddy was turned out, letting him escape. More.
Note from Debi: We did call and offer our help. I had a nice visit with one of the family members while the search was still underway. Perhaps if NetPosse had been contacted, Buddy might have been found sooner. News coverage in this type of situation is part of our plan of action. Could we have helped them find Buddy sooner? What do you think? NetPosse, unfortunately, does not have a budget for advertisement that would allow us to reach more people and let them know we are here to help them when the nightmares begin. We are open to readers' suggestions and help! |

Stolen barrel horse, "Dually"
rides again
FT. PIERRE, South Dakota (Netposse News) 5/3/2011--He's back! Stolen and severely injured, Dually's days of competition seemed over after he was stolen from Wendy Halweg on July 4, 2009.
Many of you will remember Dually, a top-of-the-line barrel racing horse stolen in 2009 at a 4th of July rodeo in Ft. Pierre, SD. The horse was taken from his corral during the night. We all followed the search and recovery of Dually through many internet mediums and social networks.
His owner, Wendy Halweg, thought he would never compete in the professional rodeo again, due to the severity of his injuries. He had serious rope burns around his hooves and neck, with cuts deep enough to injure Dually's tendon.
After slow rehabilitation on an over-sized treadmill and medical treatments, along with loads of tender loving care, and Wendy is now back in Dually's saddle looking toward a possible comeback.
Flint Dahl, convicted of the theft of the horse, will spend five days in jail every 4th of July for three more years.

Believe it or not!
What U.S. horse theft apprehension organization, founded in the early 1800's, boasts memberships that include Mikhail Gorbachev, several popes and every recent president of the United States (except for Jimmy Carter)? And why did this same organization turn down the membership application for Robert Ripley of Ripley's Believe it or Not?

Be prepared! Microchip your horse!
Unfortunately animals, including many horses, are left to fend for themselves when disasters strike, such as fires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Many of those animals will be gathered up by animal rescue organizations and emergency responders. How do the horses find their owners? Please make sure your horses have microchips so they can be identified and reunited with you by rescue organizations. |

have the bugs out of the ordering system too. Thank you to all who helped us work on those problems with the first order. We continue to test our store. To those who have ordered, THANK YOU!
The shirt has the following quote: "The love of horses knows not its own depth until the hour of separation. Forget me not."
This quote has special meaning for us at NetPosse.com. The horses on our shirt are placed in a bed of Forget me Not flowers on purpose, we do not want anyone to forget that they are not home. The artwork, by the Trail of Painted Pony artist Lori Musil is very special. Pictured on this shirt are Ritz (VA), Mayito (MO), Idaho (NC), Honky Tonk (FL), and Soldier (AL). | | Make sure you take time to see the many other items we have in our fundraising store too! |
