A Caring Community Delivers for the Children's Hospital
Members of the Jackson Liberty High School Boys Basketball Team traveled to The Children's Hospital with the toys they collected for hospitalized children, and visited with patients on the Mary Stavola Pavilion. At The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, examples of selfless holiday behavior abound each year. The 2011 holiday season was another year of abundant good will, as countless pediatric patients benefitted from a host of toy drives that delivered literally thousands of gifts for hospitalized children. Monmouth Medical Center is licensed by New Jersey as a children's hospital for Monmouth and Ocean counties, and this designation tells the community that pediatrics is a major part of the hospital mission, according to Meg Fisher, M.D., chair of pediatrics at Monmouth and medical director of The Children's Hospital. She notes that the community in turn recognizes the important role Monmouth plays in the health of its children - as evidenced by the outpouring of support the hospital receives each year from organizations and individuals throughout the state. Kids Unite in Paintball War to Fight Cancer
Pictured from left, siblings Andrew Aboujaude, 15, and Amanda Aboujaude, 12, from Tinton Falls' Ranney School and 13-year-old Ocean Tonswhip Middle School student Shalin Shah present the proceeds from their paintball fund-raiser to Monmouth Medical Center. While often cited as the rallying cry of the United States Postal Service, neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night is also an apt motto for a group of youngsters who came together on a local paintball field to fight cancer as well as their opponents despite the Halloween Nor-easter. Spearheaded by siblings Andrew Aboujaude, 15, and Amanda Aboujaude, 12, from Tinton Falls' Ranney School and by 13-year-old Shalin Shah from Ocean Township Intermediate School, the event was held on October 29 at Jackson's TopGun Paintball field. The completely kid-driven event garnered about $400 in support of MMC's Crystal Ball Gala, held on November 5 to benefit the Leon Hess Cancer Center. The event drew about 20 students who braved the rare October snowstorm to have fun and do a good deed at the same time, according to Shalin's mother and Crystal Ball committee member, Tina Shah.
