The Right Stuff for Business Process Improvement
A process is a series of steps taken to transform input data or materials into a product or service that meets customer requirements. Business processes work to produce organizational objectives and constitute a significant portion of organizational costs. When leaders make Business Process Improvement efforts a priority, productivity improves and costs are reduced.
When streamlining a business process, be sure to follow the 4 Rights for Successful Business Process Improvement:
- Focus on the right problem. Focus on business relevance and significance. Make sure the process you identify has a measurable improvement target or return on investment.
- Take the right approach. Make sure your "improvement" does not become someone else's inefficiency!
- Use the right people. Recruit only team members who have the courage to challenge the status quo, and the creativity to think "outside the box."
- Provide the right support. Without management conviction, commitment and advocacy, change will not happen.
