Hello Buccaneer Families,
We will be putting out a new weekly email newsletter during the football season. The newsletter will contain all sorts of great information about what's happening with the Ventura Buccaneers Youth Football & Cheer Organization and the Gold Coast Youth Football League. Our goal is to get the newsletter in your mailbox by Monday morning of each week. We plan to include all the latest news and information, updates from the previous week, game highlights, photos, scores and a summary of the upcoming week including the current weeks game schedule.

2009 Photo & Video Gallery Emily took a bunch of picture day photos. They have been uploaded to the Ventura Buccaneer's photo gallery. I am also uploading about 8 CD's full of photos provided by Tina Slay and the Bantam Orange team. You can visit the Ventura Buccaneer's Photo & Video Gallery at http://venturabuccaneers.smugmug.com/.
We encourage each team to find a team photographer that is willing to make copies of their digital photos for us to place in the gallery. If you like taking photos and want to submit pictures to the Buccaneer
photo gallery this season, please get in touch with your head coach, team parent or call Garry & Emily @

2009 Game Schedule
We are very close to getting the 2009 season schedule. We expect a draft to be released this week and assuming everything looks good, we could have the final as early as the end of the week. Once we have the final in our hands, we will add it to the web site, email it out to everyone and give all head coaches a copy to distribute to players.

Connecting With Our Members In addition to our web site and email newsletter, we are now using social media tools such as facebook and twitter to get info out to our members. If you use facebook, you can visit our Ventura Buccaneers FaceBook page and become a fan. If you use twitter, you can follow us at http://twitter.com/VenturaBucs. If your not currently using these sites, we recomend that you join... they are free and it's a great way to get and share information with other members!

Anacapa Parking Notice As you may know, the school
parking lot is always open during practice hours. In addition, the
"Community Parking" section of the lot near the YMCA is also open and
available to the Buccaneers. We need to make sure that we respect our
neighbors at the YMCA and not park in the areas reserved for their
members. We typically don't see a problem with Buccaneer families
parking there, however, we have noticed the YMCA reserved parking spots
being utilized during scrimmages.

Good Nutrition for Your Young Athlete
By Michele Biederman, RD
Pre-season Fueling
Excitement is in the air as our Buccaneers are preparing to start their
pre season workouts. Time to make sure
they have the right workout gear and get to the field on time but more
importantly, that they are getting the proper nutrition that meets their
special needs. Most attempts to get your
kids to eat the healthy stuff are probably met with some resistance. Try introducing the topic of eating right by
emphasizing the need to fuel for optimal performance. Help them to listen to what their bodies are
telling them about their food choices.
Are they lethargic, crampy, dizzy?
Take it back to their choices. It also helps to model good eating habits
yourself.
Here are some tips to get their needs met.
1.
Supporting growth and development while offering
up enough fuel for activities is key to meeting the needs of your young athlete. An
active boy will burn anywhere from 2000 to 2600 calories a day.
2.
Offer
up the preferred fuel for performance and that is carbohydrates. Have plenty of complex carbs such as whole
grain breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables. Fortified cereals are loaded with B vitamins
and zinc so important for metabolism and immunity. A minimum of 6 servings of
grains, 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables make a good foundation.
3.
Dairy
products are an important nutrient for the athlete. Calcium is necessary for strong bones and
aids with muscle contraction. Aim for 3
cups or servings/day
4.
Protein
provides the building blocks for muscles but does not need to be excessive as
this can lead to dehydration and calcium loss.
Six ounces of lean meat, chicken, fish, or beans will be just enough.
5.
Fluids
are vital. Remember to be hydrating all
day long, not just at workouts. If they
will be working out longer than 60 minutes a light electrolyte drink is
recommended. If you want to be sure your
buc is getting enough, weigh them before and after workouts. If they lose one pound, they are not drinking
enough. Sixteen ounces an hour before
practice and then about 20-40 ounces every hour should prevent
dehydration.

Helmuth T. Billy's office in Ventura and is a proud mom of a Buccaneer. She can be reached for individual
consultation at 766-2745

Washing Instructions For Your Jersey
- WASH JERSEY IN COLD WATER!
Jersey should be washed immediately after use in cold water. - We recommend detergent similar to tide for cold water. - Prior to washing, you should turn the jersey inside out to help preserve screen printing. - Do not wash jerseys with other items such as towels.
- DO NOT USE CHLORINE BLEACH OR COLOR SAFE BLEACH
Heavily soiled jerseys (grass, dirt, clay, mud) may require pre-treatment. - Products such as Shout or Spray & Wash should be put on 15 minutes prior to washing. - Products such as Stick Stain or Shout Gel can be rubbed on stubborn stains and left overnight for washing the next day. - For blood stains, it is best to rinse in cold water as soon as possible, and if necessary, soak in cold water before washing. One of the above treatments can also be used, or an oxygen based laundry booster such as Oxy Clean.
- DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER OR DRYER SHEETS
- DO NOT OVERLOAD YOUR WASHER OR DRYER
Remove jersey immediately after washing. It is recommended that you hang your jersey to dry. If you chose to machine dry your jersey, be sure to remove it immediately after the dryer has finished.
- DO NOT DRY JERSEYS ON HIGH HEAT
If you do use a dryer, use damp dry or air dry setting. High heat can cause shrinkage, screen printing to crack, twill to wrinkle, etc..
- DO NOT DRY CLEAN OR IRON
