Google is getting into the business of delivering the internet. As of this writing Google will be offering internet connectivity for home users in the Midwest that is 100 times faster than typical broadband for $70 a month. Starting in the fall, they will be adding TV services as well, both for about $120 a month. Less than most of us are paying now.
Android VS Ipad. Android based tablet shipments are on track to overtake IOS (Apple) by 2015. The change up is already on tap. Android's 4th quarter 2011 sales grew to 44.6% up from 32.3 in quarter 3. Correspondingly, during the same period Ipad sales dropped from 61.6% to 54.7%.
Look for a new face on Microsoft's popular Hotmail. The new Hotmail will have a cleaner interface designed to look more like and compete better with Yahoo on the one end and Facebook on the other. The new product is called Outlook.com, try it now. If you're a Hotmail user, you will find the new interface substantially friendlier and easy to use. Outlook will include free web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
Start saying goodbye to Windows XP: Microsoft has announced the end of support for both Windows XP and the Microsoft Office 2003 product line. The termination date for support will be April 8, 2014. Now, that sounds pretty far away but time flies when you're having thoughts about a new computer. Your XP computer and office software will continue to function but without weekly security updates, patches and fixes the platforms will become unstable. So start saving your pennies.
On that note, Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT, a lesser version designed for lightweight net-books, which will further reduce the Ipad/IOS market share, is to be released sometime in October.
