Saving a Web Page

Saving Web pages for viewing later on is a pain. You can "Save page as"  (Firefox), or "Save as"  (Internet Explorer) but both of these have their shortcomings. Those transferred pages aren't always complete and frequently are visually skewed.  Additionally, the saved page requires an auxiliary folder which mysteriously shows up at the same location, your desktop or download folder, as the saved page. Delete the folder and all the graphics in your saved page disappear. You can always opt to print the page to a PDF using something like Cute PDF.

Here's a better way. Try this great website pdfmyurl.  Open a second tab or window in your browser (Select "File" and then "New tab" or "New Window") then copy and paste any URL (that info starting with "http://") from the white address bar all the way at the top into this website's entry line and it will create a perfect PDF copy of the entire page for you to save or email.

Test the strength of your password take two!

                         http://howsecureismypassword.net/

I published this URL last month and I think not many of you clicked the link, let alone tried your password. If you're thinking that it might be just another way to scam your password; absolutely NOT! In fact your password is never stored anywhere, not even on your computer. Further, the algorithm used to determine the security of the password is, while not 100% accurate, a good gauge of where it fits in the larger scheme of good passwords. Need more info? Accidentaly Deleted?

Erase some file or favorite picture accidentally and it's no longer in the Recycle? Try this free un-erase product http://www.piriform.com/recuva. Best part of this application is that it runs without being installed. It's smart to save recovered material to a flash or external drive to preclude overwriting other deleted material that you might still want to recover, but if you're looking to recover one file and your hard drive is not full this precaution is really not necessary. It works on Digital camera storage chips and MP3 players as well.

 The New Intel Chips

That CPU (Central Processing Unit) in your computer is its brain. The faster the brain can think, the speedier the results are displayed or printed and the happier you are. Of course the brain, without adequate resources, read; a goodly amount of ram and a fast bus speed would be like running a car on rims rather than tires. I recommend 4 gig of ram for any computer running any version of Windows 7-32 bit and a minimum of 6 and preferably 8 gig for any version of Windows 7-64 bit.

Here are the new intel chips in order of overall speed  and price (GHZ not withstanding) starting with the slowest: CoreI3-540 (3.06GHz, $145), CoreI5-750 (2.66Ghz, $199), CoreI7-870 (2.93Ghz, $564) and the latest and greatest CoreI7-980X (3.33GHz, $999).

FYI on Laptop Batteries
You never use the laptop without the power cord in place and when you finally do need to run it off the battery, it either is depeleted in an hour or less or worse yet, it won't run at all!!!!

Here's why, Laptop batteries have a lifespan and a limited number of charge cycles: Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer, the composite materials in a laptop battery, have a charge life of approximately 1000 cycles. While connected to your powered computer, it will charge continuously as needed and depleted, even in dribs and drabs, thereby consuming those 1000 cycles. If you want to extend the life of a laptop battery, remove it when you are using the laptop with the charger attached for any period of time. The laptop will run just fine off of the power adapter and the battery will live to run another day.

Buying an new Inkjet Printer ?

If you buy an inkjet printer with one color and one black cartridge, when one color runs out in that color cartridge, the entire cartridge needs to be tossed. So buying a printer that has separate cartridges for each color (cyan, magenta, yellow) might be more economical in the long run.
