Watch out for Wii Sports Tennis.

Researchers in Northern Ohio University College of Medicine find that the game accounts for 46% of self reported Wii related injuries.

Cablevision Carbonite is not worth its free price.

I recently tested the free on-line backup being provided by Carbonite, for Cablevision customers. The backup, limited to 2GIG of data (read pictures, music, documents) is one pain. When first installed, Carbonite determines what it thinks you need backed up, and, if it exceeds the 2 GIG that is offered for free the software wants you to buy additional backup resources. You can selectively determine what to backup but I found the procedure not at all user friendly. If you are over the 2 GIG limit, expect a stream of nagging to get you to buy the paid version.

Most of us, BTW, will have more than 2 GIG of stuff to backup. Once installed it is almost impossible to uninstall as it does not come with an uninstall utility. In fact I got rid of it by "rolling back" my Windows 7 workhorse to a date prior to the installation.

My advice, buy a flash drive or an external hard drive for your backup. Copy and paste whatever it is that you want to save and if it's important enough take the backup device with you. Flash drives in capacities of up to 8 GIG (16 if you want to splurge) are readily available and on sale as often as not in all of the tech stores including Bestbuy, Staples and even Walmart. External hard drives, like the Western Digital Passport, tiny enough to fit in a shirt pocket, are also on special regularly and a 500 GIG drive can be had for less than $100.

Got a print job stuck in the Cue?

You ask something to print and it doesn't. You try to delete it and it won't.  More frustration, the printer is your work printer and you're home with your back and forth laptop. Worst case scenario, the printer is in the trash and you can't delete it because, as far as Windows is concerned, there's a job still stuck in the printer.

Here's a great utility, the "Stalled Printer Repair" tool. Regardless of the reason, this tool lets you clean any print cue immediately.  More wonderfully, it does not need t o be installed, just decompress the file and double click to run. Here's the link Stalled Printer Repair.

Is That PC really Dead?

You might have had a thunderstorm or a momentary power outage and now the computer refuses to start. You push the button or un-plug and re-plug that desktop or laptop and nothing. Yourmachine might even exhibit a flashing yellow light. Before you call me or run out to buy another machine here's a fix that just might work. Unplug the unit, if it's a laptop pull the battery as well. Now press hard on the start button, in fact lean on for at least 15 seconds. This discharges the capacitors in the unit and clears any residual static electricity. Plug it back in, battery up and try a restart. There's a good chance it will start right up. If not, I'll be happy to stop by.

Website Update

HULU, the TV on your PC website, is not free anymore, or at least not all of it. HULU is about to try a $9.95 a month subscription wherein you will be able to get TV content, some of which was not available before. Whether you are watching the free or paid content, expect HULU to inundate you with commercial advertising as well.
