Face lift. There's a new "skin" on my
website. That means that the basic text in the website has not changed, only the
look and feel. Take a look and let me
know what you think - MisterComputer.com . On that note, the Newsletter has also taken on a new look and (I hope) a more simplified format. Links to related websites are now integrated, just click on a RED link to peek at any of my recommended sites.

Summer Time and the Livin is easy
|
|
Summer is upon us. Looking for something to do? Maybe spur
of the moment? Try Goby.com I recently used the keywords GO "Zoo",
Where "NYC,NY", When "Anytime". Give it a shot.
On that note: Try fansnap.com the website that aggregates tickets to all
kinds of events in the Tri-State area, finding any and all available tickets to
fill your particular wish.
So you don't want to go anywhere or see anything? How about
staying home and watching some TV. This site locatetv.com helps you find that movie or show at its next
viewing time. As the site brags, "find TV shows, movies and people on TV, DVD
and On-line".
If you are staying in hvtakeout.com
offers a look at a variety of restaurants that will deliver and copies of their
most recent menus.
It's hard to eat and use the keyboard and/or mouse at the same
time but if you're at home and bored try ninjakiwi.com
or onemorelevel.com or addictinggames.com/ . All of these sites offer numerous games for free that are indeed addicting.

Summer, The kids and The Computer
|
|
if your kids are going to spend a bunch of time on the
computer this summer and you want to help them
browse safely, try K9 web protection. K9 is basic, good and free. Here's the link K9WebProtection.com.
Want a bit more control and don't mind paying? Try Safe Eyes, there is an initial fee (as low
as $40, google for best price) and an annual renewal, but it's not unreasonable and it's the best of the paid products (in my
opinion).
Other products you might consider are Cyber Patrol, Cyber Sitter and Netnanny.com.

Hotmail Hacked
|
|
If you get an email, purportedly from a friend with a Hotmail
account, BEWARE. In October of 2009 Microsoft's Hotmail computers were hacked
and passwords as well as contact lists stored with those accounts were compromised. It is estimated that
some 1.5 Million accounts were stolen. Similarly in the UK some 21 Million accounts were
stolen. These accounts are now in play as the spammers and virus makers are beginning to take advantage of them. I've received several of these tainted emails from clients. If the email you receive has an
embedded link for you to click on, don't, not at least until you check with the sender to determine its authenticity.
Possibly as a result of all of this, Verizon FiOS users who send emails using
their work addresses from their home network (yourname@workdomain.com) will be experiencing
failures this month and moving forward. This, because Verizon, in an attempt to
reduce spam generated by "spoofing" email accounts (using your email address to
market or send viruses) has brought their email policies in line with the ones they've always had for their DSL customers. Emails
using their servers whether specifying their smtp (outgoing.verizon.net) or your work smtp
(smtp. Workdomain.com) will not get out. You can get around this by modifying your
outgoing server configuration and adding your Verizon user-id and password in
the "Outgoing Server" tab.

TIPS & TRICKS
|
|
I hate Vista. I really do. Got a vista problem? Or even a Windows 7
issue. Try Fixwin.exe. Download the free software and double click it to run.
It does not need installation. Go down the list of problems and click the one
you want to repair.
