Face lift. There's a new "skin" on my
website. That means that the basic text in the website has not changed, only the
look and feel. Take a look and let me
know what you think - MisterComputer.com . On that note, the Newsletter has also taken on a new look and (I hope) a more simplified format. Links to related websites are now integrated, just click on a RED link to peek at any of my recommended sites.

Copy Machine Warning
|
|
Have you been using that copy machine at work, at the
library or in the social hall for personal stuff? Stuff you'd like to keep private? Today's
modern copiers are just specialized computers.
Think of them as a combination PC, scanner and printer rolled all up
into one unit. These device have their own hard drives which, they use as
intermediary platforms while sending your copy from the in to the out. Take a closer
look at this video (follow the link) Copy Machine Danger
and decide how you'd like to proceed moving forward.

Anti-Virus Update
|
|
Microsoft
Security Essentials takes highest ratings. Two of the trade magazines that I read monthly, PC
World and Maximum PC, have given kudos to this free Microsoft Anti-Virus/
Anti-Spyware, etc. product and have rated it with an 8 out 10. Only one product rated a 9, no 10s and in fact Norton received a 7 and Mcaffee an 8 as well. Security essentials is fast to
install and won't drag performance down. Norton/McAfee like products do tend to slow
computers down and have a most notable degrading effect on older machines. If
you're currently on AVG free, that's fine, it's a great product; what you
gain from Security Essentials is a lack of nagging to buy an upgrade and a company
with an intimate knowledge of Windows. If you decide to install this product you must uninstall any previous anti-virus software. Having more than one A/V product can bring the fastest computer to a crawl. Security essentials here: Microsoft Website

TIPS & TRICKS
|
|
By now we should all be using multiple tabs to browse the
internet (IE7, IE8, Firefox, etc.) and not opening additional browser windows
to view multiple websites. If you've just inadvertently closed that window that
you now need, hold down the Ctrl + Shift +T to reopen that window again.
