ARPA Awards & Scholarships - Get Your Nominations in Today!

Do you know someone who is passionate about providing Albertans with a quality of life that is second to none? A student who works hard and is committed to the "recreation for life" philosophy? A provincial leader in the area of recreation and parks? A group or project that has greatly contributed to recreation and parks development.

If so, now is the time to recognize these outstanding individuals, groups and communities. Each year, the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) recognizes some of its most promising students and industry high achievers through its awards and scholarships program. This is your chance to make a positive impact on the future leaders of recreation and parks and to formally recognize those who have already made a difference in quality of life for Albertans.

ARPA has a variety of awards and scholarships, each recognizing achievement in the areas of recreation and parks. Details and selection criteria for each award and scholarship as well as the nomination process can be found online at www.awards.arpaonline.ca

Please help us celebrate those that are doing so much to make their community and the province a better place to work, live and play!

The deadline for nomination intent forms is March 31, 2009 at 5:00 p.m..
For more information, please visit the ARPA website or contact the ARPA office, toll free at 1-877-544-1747.

 SOGO Web Banner
ARPA is pleased to be the Provincial Coordinator of Sogo Active - an initiative to help Canadians between 13 and 19 to become more active by creating a physical activity movement by and for youth.  Over 40 organizations across Alberta have already registered as Community Host organization!

Over $10,000 in grants to reduce barriers to youth becoming more physically active have already been awarded and information for the second round will be available in March.  The incentive for youth to become more active?  The opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame as it travels through Alberta as a part of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay!  For more information, please visit www.sogoactive.com or email sogoactive@arpaonline.ca

ACE CommunitiesACE COMMUNITIES...active, creative, engaged
The ACE team is hard at work applying strategies for enhancing the quality of life in rural Alberta by strengthening community leadership, collaboration, and innovation through recreation, parks, arts, culture, and heritage. As a $6.5 million initiative, it comes with a panoramic vision that encompasses awareness, learning opportunities, community development initiatives, research, youth engagement and more.

However, despite the complexity of ACE Communities, all of it is being done with an eye to ensuring a legacy that links to three critical deliverables that the ACE team has committed to achieving by year end 2011:
1.1000 new community leaders
2. Platforms for our leaders to play on
3. A repositioned recreation and parks field focused on quality of life (job#1) and community development (job#2)
