President's Message

After waiting patiently all summer to find out teacher assignments, the countdown has finally begun. Thursday, August 30th, is Open House. Your teachers, the staff and the PTA have been working hard to make Open House and this school year the best yet for Shady Grove.
What you need to bring Thursday to Open House:
- Your School Supplies to drop off in the classroom and meet the teacher
- Your CHILD! This is a welcome back to school for parents AND children
- Your Checkbook or - new this year - Your Credit Card!
Last year's single form and check-out system was so popular that we are doing it again this year, only better. Now, if you choose to stop by the cafeteria during open house and shop our expanded inventory of spirit wear, learn more about the PTA and our programs, and choose to support the PTA, you can now pay by credit card for a $2 processing fee. If you choose to join the PTA while you are at Open House you will automatically be entered into a drawing for a chance to win reserved parking or seating at a PTA function of your choice. Finally, our new forms were printed on no-carbon-required paper so that you may take a receipt home with you for tax purposes. All donations to the PTA at 100% tax deductible.
In an effort to expedite the production of our student directory and to reduce errors, the form will have your contact information already on it if you were here last year -- you just need to be sure it is all correct and how you want it in the directory. It will be in your child's class along with transportation and contact forms the teachers will require. You will only need to return one form per family. Preview the form and fees HERE. This year's form will have:
PTA-Membership (NEW this year - Shady Grove family memberships - the first member of your family to join pays $5 and all subsequent family members will only pay $3) Also new this year - the National PTA has gone electronic. Upon joining, you will receive a PTA card with a unique number that will allow you to register online for benefits including a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase at Office Max, and 10% off at Great Wolf Lodge. All that, and membership to the only national organization focused on providing quality education and resources for children.
Fundraising Information Check-writing campaign is in its 6th year and still our major source of income. Cardinal Donor amount is still only $100.

Spirit Wear! We have expanded the inventory of spirit wear to sell at open house this year for your convenience. We will also be selling copies of The Shady Grove Stove.

Also open for business in the cafeteria:
- Cafeteria staff will be taking money and checks for lunch money accounts (separate check from PTA).
- Volunteers will be set-up to answer any questions about volunteering.
- Finance will be there to answer any questions about upcoming Spirit Nights, Papa John's nights, and partners in the community.
- Yearbook will show examples of previous year's yearbooks. Check the box to order yours today.
