President's Message
by Kaje Stuckey Dear SGES PTA families, This is my last update as PTA President, a volunteer job that has given me more than I gave to it. I know we are a lucky school when such dedicated, caring parents are involved on a daily basis. Our teachers, our staff, our volunteers are second to none. Our PTA has great talent, and I am in awe of their generosity to give of their time and talent to our school, and our children. I thank them for their help these past two years. New PTA President Sue Manley will be an outstanding leader for our school, we are fortunate to have her. The on-line voting for our budget amendment is over. We will have paper ballots at the Thursday awards assemblies. The exit poll is showing tremendous support for our three budget initiatives. Thanks to those of you who took a minute to read them and vote. I also wish to take a moment and recognize another former SGES PTA President, who is leaving Shady Grove. Lisa Weisner served PTA for 6 years. She was Secretary, President, and Parliamentarian for PTA. She is a thoughtful hard working leader whose shoes were very hard to fill. Thank you Lisa for all you have done to make Shady Grove a great place to learn. The PTA Board, at it's final meeting, voted to send all the profits from this year's Cardinal's Nest (the school store), to our sister school Laburnum Elementary. We have had a long-standing relationship with Laburnum. In previous years, SGES through the SCA and PTA have sent sent supplies and donations. Our nearly $700 profit will go a long way to provide resources for their teachers for the upcoming year. If this is something you'd like to see carried on from year to year, the PTA Board would like your feedback. Also, $6,000 in funds raised at the Rock-A-Thon this year were awarded to eight former Shady Grove Cardinals. Their names and where they are headed can be found below. What a talented group of teenagers. I can not wait to see where the world takes them, and how they will make this world a better place. The scholarship we provide to students honors their hard work to community service. It is a truly unique scholarship opportunity for a student who has made a difference in our community.
Have a restful summer full of new experiences and family time. See you in September.

Fundraising:
A big THANK YOU to all the parents, students, teachers, and staff that participated in all of our fundraising efforts this year. These include: Check writing campaign, Papa John's pizza nights, Box Tops for Education, Spirit Nights (Barnes & Noble, Silver Diner, Spirited Art), Martins A+ program, Target Red Card program, and Kroger points program. Shady Grove PTA appreciates all of your support, and realizes that without your help, they would not be able to provide many things that are available for our students.
SAVE THE DATE:
Please save the date for our 2nd Silent Auction to be held mid March 2013. We are going to help raise funds for a new Book Room for Shady Grove.
Be on the lookout for a letter to be coming home by Friday with more information to help explain what a book room is and why Shady Grove needs one. If you would like to help out in any way with the silent auction by donating your time, talents, knowledge, products, or services, please call us, we would love to hear from you! We realize it's early, but we wanted everyone to keep this fun event in mind for next year.
Thank you,
