Papa John's Pizza Night
s:
Our next Pizza Nights are this Tuesday through Thursday, April 17-19.  Order online using code SGES or send your receipt in with your child.

Spirit Night:
Please come join the fun at our 2nd annual Silver Diner Spirit Night Monday, April 23rd from 5-8pm.  Some of our teachers and staff members will be helping out in the restaurant to hostess, serve, and bus tables.  This year, we will have a table set up out in front of the restaurant for families to sign up for the free Eat Well Do Well Card.  This card allows Shady Grove to earn an EXTRA 5% from each check that night and each time the card is swiped thereafter.  This card is just like your grocery story cards that are swiped while paying.  There is no cost to you, only benefits for our school.  Along with signing up that night, you will receive a $10 coupon to use whenever you'd like.
SCA Math-A-Thon
The Student Council has kicked off the Math-A-Thon to raise money for Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. As you may recall, we have participated for several years using their math paper/pencil booklet program. Students received a math booklet and solicited donations based on the amount of math problems they completed or asked for flat donations. The books are now gone, we are quite excited about the change in the program!

Math-A-Thon is entirely online! With parental permission and guidance, students may now complete math activities, solicit donations, and select their prizes all electronically! The SCA has put together a cover sheet with directions to help you and your child get started. It has been sent home with your child this week.  You may find the link HERE.  The use of pseudonyms is accepted by Saint Jude, so please feel free to participate with a family team name or other catchy title. Our schedule for this year's Math-A-Thon begins Monday, April 9, and will run through Monday, April 23.

Curious to know more about Math-A-Thon or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital? Check out their website at: www.mathathon.org/ for more details. We were not sent the paper math booklets this year, so it truly is an entirely online experience! We hope you enjoy the new program.
 Class Placement Process
for 2012-2013

by Dr. Regina Schwab

Each year, teachers, counselors, and administrators work together closely during May and June to create the best possible classroom communities for the following year. We invite you to give input to the placement process if you believe that there is information about your child that might be overlooked. However, please observe the following guidelines:

Submit your information in writing directly to Dr. Schwab between April 17 and May 1.

Remember that parent information submitted in previous years will not be part of the process.  Work directly with administrators (who will make the final placement decisions) rather than with your child's current teacher.

We would also like to make you aware that our staffing predictions for 2012-2013 are for an enrollment decrease from approximately 730 students to approximately 640 students.  Therefore, to avoid any last minute confusion or disappointment for the children if adjustments must be made later in the summer, we plan to send out our placement letters in August this year.

Thank you for your understanding and support!
