Yearbook Reminder
Yearbooks are almost gone! Please be aware that there are a limited number of books available and they are going quickly!
Fifth grade parents - there are still 17 students that do not have yearbooks ordered. The book contains personal comments from all fifth graders! Be sure they have theirs ready for signing as they leave the Cardinal's nest and head to middle school. Every year we have a few very sad 5th graders who realize too late that they really want to have a yearbook for the 5th grade signing parties. Please discuss this with your child if you have not planned on ordering one.
Check your records or contact Amy Foy at foyshawaii@yahoo.com if you have any questions. You can order a yearbook by clicking on this link or send a check for $25 or $30 if it is after March 31st with your child's name and teacher. The check should be made out to SGES PTA. |

Thomas B. Fernald Scolarships
Do you have a student who attended Shady Grove Elementary School and has been an active volunteer in the community? They may be eligible to apply for the Thomas B. Fernand Scholarship. Each year, Shady Grove Elementary PTA raises money for and administers these scholarships. For additional information and to print the application form, click HERE. The deadline to submit applications is April 20.

PTA Volunteer of the Year Announced: Kaje Stuckey
Congratulations to Kaje Stuckey, our PTA President, for being voted Volunteer of the Year for 2011-2012! Here is an excerpt from one of Kaje's nominations and one of the many reasons she was selected:
Kaje has done a fantastic job leading the SGES PTA for the past two years. Having served on the PTA board with her, I very much appreciate her leadership style. She is very accessible and provides any assistance that is requested. She is always open to new ideas and listens respectfully to all opinions that are expressed in the PTA board meetings. She keeps the board focused on the mission of the PTA and how we can best serve the needs of the school. Her enthusiasm is contagious and it has been fun working with her.
Not only does Kaje lead the PTA, she also spends time in the classroom, coaches a Destination Imagination team and is often the smiling face that opens the car door when I drop my kids off in the morning: rain, snow or shine. Thank you Kaje!

Papa John's:
A BIG thank you to all the families that participated in our last Papa John's Pizza Nights. Congratulations Shady Grove! We WON the Massanutten contest for our lead teachers. Our school had the most sales that week of all the area schools!

Spirit Night:
Our 2nd annual Silver Diner Spirit Night is scheduled for Monday, April 23rd from 5-8pm. Like last year, some of our teachers and staff members will be helping out in the restaurant to hostess, serve, and bus tables. This year, we will have a table set up out in front of the restaurant for families to sign up for the Eat Well Do Well Card. This card allows Shady Grove to earn an EXTRA 5% from each check that night and each time the card is swiped thereafter. This card is just like your grocery story cards that are swiped while paying. There is no cost to you, only benefits for our school.

Only six short weeks to plan for one of Shady Grove's most exciting events of the year, Field Day. Make sure to mark your calendars and join us on May 4th. (rain date May 11th) Look for an e-mail from your room parent next week inviting you to sign up to volunteer on nList. Dads and Moms welcome!!

HCPS Gifted Education Programs Informational Session
Henrico County Public Schools invites parents and community members to attend a public informational session about the expansion of the gifted education programs at the elementary level. Two dates are scheduled and parents may select either session to attend. If you are unable to attend a session, the presentations will be posted on-line on the HCPS website. One session is scheduled for April 2 at New Bridge School Auditorium and the other is scheduled for April 3 at Glen Allen High School Auditorium. Both sessions are from 6:30-7:30pm. Information about the dates and locations are posted on the HCPS website.
