President's Message
by Kaje Stuckey
This month's PTA program will be held this Wednesday at Short Pump Middle School. SGES PTA is presenting the Race to Nowhere. Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door. The program begins at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. It is the time in the PTA calendar in which we look for future PTA leaders. The nominating committee will be assembled this month, and open job descriptions will be posted on our website as well as a nomination form. Please consider sharing your talents and your leadership to this great organization. You can self-nominate! Thank you in advance for considering joining the PTA Board.
This week is also our Teacher Appreciation Week at SGES. SGES PTA has moved our recognition to February in recent years from the national week usually observed in May. What a nice opportunity to have your SGES Cardinal write a little note or draw a picture thanking their teacher for their work and dedication. Thank you to everyone who sent in prizes last week to help in this celebration. Each morning on the announcements teachers names will be pulled out in hopes of winning one of your donations. Also - thank you to all who are donating to hospitality this week as we host a chili lunch for our dedicated teachers and staff.
The General Assembly is in session and the Virginia State PTA has posted their position paper on the now being discussed "Tebow Bill." This bill would allow non public school students to participate in interscholastic sports. The issue paper from the State PTA is linked HERE. If you have an opinion you would like to share, please contact our legislators, Delegate Peter Farrell at DelPFarrell@house.virginia.gov or Senator Walter Stosch at district12@senate.virginia.gov. Superintendent Russo presented the proposed budget to the Henrico County School Board. Review the 2012-13 Recommended Annual Financial Plan and view a power-point presentation HERE. Open-public comment closed last week, but comments are being received by our school board representative, Diana Winston at ddwinston@henrico.k12.va.us. And also out for public comment this month is the proposed school calendar for the 2012-2013 school year. View the proposed calendar HERE. Comments regarding the calendar are being accepted in written form to Dr. Patrick Kinlaw at pckinlaw@henrico.k12.va.us. Comments are due by Thursday, February 16. |
