We're WILD About Reading!
Join us on Thursday, January 19 at 6:30pm for a Book Swap, Storytime, and Presentation for Parents. Each child is invited to bring 1- 4 gently used children's books to be traded for other books.
If you bring more than 4 books, the extra books will be donated to SGES classrooms and the Read Aloud Virginia Children's Book Bank.
Books can be brought to the SGES Dining Room between 6:15 and 6:30 pm on January 19. Storytime for the children starts at 6:30 pm, and the parent presentation starts at 6:45 pm. Mrs. Lisa Blouch, SGES Librarian, will present "For the Love of Reading: Nurturing Your Young Readers at Home." After storytime and the parent presentation, parents will return to the Dining Room to assist their children in completing their book trades.

| Congratulations Cardinals!
We have just learned that Shady Grove Elementary has received the 2012 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence. This award is based on a number of school quality factors, including the percentage of students who achieve advanced pass scores on the Standards of Learning tests. Shady Grove will be one of seven Henrico County Elementary Schools recognized for this distinction at a school board meeting this spring. Thank you for all you do to support academic achievement at our school!

Reminder: Lost and Found Items
As stated in the SGES Parent/Student Handbook, items left on the Lost and Found rack for extended periods of time are donated to charity at the end of each semester. Please check the rack this month for items that your child may have lost. Our rack is currently overflowing with coats, jackets, hats and gloves. We would love to see these items returned to their owners! |
Yearbook
Don't forget to order your 2011-2012 SGES Yearbook! Prices go up after March 31st to $30. There are a limited number of copies so be sure to reserve your copy TODAY! You can go to http://sgespta.org/Yearbook.aspx to order on-line for $23 and have the option to personalize or you can send in a $25 check and a printed order form. Fundraising
Spirit Nights - A big thank you to all the families, teachers and staff members that participated in our Barnes & Noble Spirit Night. It was a great success and we raised almost $800 for our school. Box Tops - Please help congratulate Mrs. DiFilippo's class. They collected the most Box Tops for the month of December.
Our Spring challenge deadline, Friday February 17th, is quickly approaching. The classroom with the most collected Box Tops from 10/19 - 2/17 receives an ice cream party.
Please send all Box Tops now as any sent after 2/17 will count towards the 2012-13 school year and could expire. We want every Box Top collected to count for Shady Grove!
As always, please submit ONLY 10 single Box Tops on the Box Tops submission sheets. Bonus Box Tops and additional Box Tops should be sent in a Ziploc bag- all labeled with your teacher's name on them. Campbell's soup labels and soda can tops are not accepted in our Box Tops challenge. Expired Box Tops also cannot be accepted.
