President's Message
from Kaje Stuckey Thank you Colleen Bohlman and Mary Jordan for planning our November Reflections Program. We had over 80 submissions this year and as usual the artistic talent in our school is outstanding. Colleen and Mary categorized our entries, found unbiased judges to judge, organized volunteers to hang the artwork, display the literature, and bring the cookies. As we near the end of 2011, I'd like to thank every one who has contributed to the check writing campaign. It is not the only way the PTA funds its programs but it's the biggest for our non-profit, and to date we near $30,000! That is over our estimated fundraising goal of $22,000. If everyone continues to support our fundraising (like Papa Johns week, Box Tops and Kroger/Martin/ cards ) and our spirit nights, like December's Barnes and Noble Night, we should be able to fully fund all our programs. In fact, the PTA board hopes to be able to ask you, our PTA members, how to spend what we have left as we near the end of school. Fundraising
Barnes & Noble Book Fair:
December 6th 5:30 -8:00 pm @ Barnes & Noble Short Pump. Please join us for our 3rd annual Barnes & Noble Bedtime Stories Spirit Night. Many of our teachers and staff will be "putting the kids to bed" as they read their favorite stories to the children in their pj's. So, have your kids wear their favorite jammies, bring a snuggly friend, and come on out and join the fun! We are excited to announce that our very own SGES Soundsations vocal group and Syncopations percussion group will be performing for the first time before the readings and at intermission in the Starbuck's café. Shady Grove to receive credit. Box Tops: Please keep collecting Box Tops over the holidays. Every classroom has a chance to win another ice cream party for collecting the most number of box tops in our spring challenge.
If you are interested in shopping online for your holiday purchases and helping us gain more box tops, here is how to proceed:
1. Become a member of Box Tops for Education by signing up your email onto the website: www.boxtops4education.com
2. Once logged in as a member, go to http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/marketplace and click on the button "see all stores." Click on the store you want to make a purchase from and the box tops will automatically be sent back to our school once your online purchase and transaction goes through. It's that easy!
3. If you would like classroom credit for these purchases, please send in a copy of the receipt with your teacher's name and mention the number of box tops offered in the promotion (for example 2 box tops for every $10 spent).
