President's Message
from Kaje Stuckey Continuing to highlight those volunteers that make SGES PTA run, this blast I'd like to thank Angela Roupe and Beth Clark. As VPs of finance they organize all our fundraising and spirit nights. With a budget of over $60,000, they are responsible for helping SGES raise much of it. Thank you for your tireless work and your creative ideas. Because of your fundraising, we are able to provide programs and support in our school. And thank you, Shady Grove families, for supporting them. Your generosity is the major reason why our PTA has success. |
Reflections Celebration!
Thursday, 11/17 at 6:30 pm SGES Multi-Purpose Room Please join the PTA in celebrating the artistic talents of our Shady Grove Cardinals! The Reflections Celebration begins at 6:30 pm in the multi-purpose room. All participants will be recognized and winners of awards announced. After the program, we invite you to join us in the cafeteria to view the gallery of work and enjoy some refreshments. Even if you didn't participate in Reflections this year, please come out to support your fellow Cardinals and see what Reflections is all about. |

Fundraising
Spirit Nights: Spirited Art Night Hurry! There is still time to register for the remaining seats for our Spirited Art Night on Tuesday Nov. 15th from 6-9pm.
To register: 2. Go to "Class Calendars" on the left side bar, and select "Richmond Studio" from the drop-down menu. 3. Click on the date "Nov. 15th," and then click "Add to cart." Proceed to checkout.
This is a going to be a fun night with over 70% of the proceeds going back to Shady Grove. We hope to see you there!
Barnes & Noble Book Fair
December 6th 5:00 -7:30 pm @ Barnes & Noble Short Pump. Many teachers and staff will be reading bedtime stories so be sure to wear your jammies. Mr. Brady and the Shady Grove vocal group, Soundsations, and the percussion group, Syncopations, will be performing in the café before the book fair starts and at intermission.
Check Writing Campaign: Thank you to all the parents who contributed to the Check Writing Campaign so far this year. We had our contest deadline on Nov. 4th. Our contest winners were Mrs. Doyle's 4th grade class for the highest participation per class. The winners of the extra cultural arts program for each grade were: Kg: tie between Mrs. Rhyne's and Mrs. Brady's classes, 1st: Mrs. Phelps, 2nd: Mrs. DiFilippo, 3rd: Ms. Taylor, 4th: Mrs. Doyle, 5th: Mrs. Luke. The Deep Run Drumline will be performing for the winning classes the half day before Thanksgiving. If you haven't donated yet and would like to, we will continue to collect throughout the year. Box Tops: Please congratulate the students and the supporting parents from Mrs. Venezeula's class. They were our Fall Box Tops challenge winner with 1441 box tops collected. As their reward, the class enjoyed an ice cream party given by the PTA last week. They also received free Shady Grove pencils because they were our October winner. Please keep turning in Box Tops for a chance for your child's class to win our Spring box tops challenge! You can also go online to www.btfe.com/marketplace to find ways you can bring more eBoxTops to Shady Grove through online purchases. Thanks again for participating in our box tops challenge and keep collecting!

PTA Membership
And the Winner is.......
Congratulations to Mrs. Sanborn and Mrs. Venezuela for winning the teacher/faculty PTA membership drive raffle through the end of October with 41 members each! Each teacher won a $10 gift card to Target! Thanks to all the parents, teachers and faculty members who have joined the PTA already! If YOU haven't joined yet, please click HERE to get the PTA membership form and submit it with your $5 dues to your child's teacher. We are still in need of memberships to reach our goal of one PTA member per student! We will have another competition through the end of December to reward another teacher who has the most members in his/her class. Click here to see where your class stands in the competition.
PTA membership cards were issued this week. This card has many benefits but as mentioned in the last blast, you now can receive a 10% discount for your stay at the Great Wolf Lodge. Refer to the October 23rd blast for more details. You can help us reach our goals and give your teacher some extra cash for the holidays. Good luck to the teachers as we continue to monitor our progress towards 100% participation!

Shady Grove Cookbook
Congratulations to Karen Manning, winner of a free cookbook in the "Early Bird" drawing for recipe submissions!
Congratulations to Keely Dougherty, winner of the "Name the Cookbook" contest! Keely is a 5th grader in Ms. Davies' class. Her entry, "The Shady Grove Stove" will be used for our book title. Keely will receive a $25 gift certificate to Cheeburger Cheeburger.
Need a stocking stuffer for the Holidays? Buy a book between now and December 16th, and the Cookbook Committee can provide a Gift Certificate for your recipient! Please note this on your order form, and the gift certificate will be sent home with your child. Cookbooks will be be available for pre-order during the bookfair- don't miss out on the pre-order discount ($13.50/ book) ending December 16th!

Nominate one of
'Henrico's Top Teachers' today
Nominations for the Henrico Citizen's second annual 'Henrico's Top Teachers' special issue are now open. Nominate one, or several, of the current teachers who have have made a difference in your life, or in the lives of your children, grandchildren, friends, brothers or sisters. Public and private school teachers are eligible to be nominated. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30!

Rock-A-Thon
Please be on the look-out for information regarding the first Shady Grove Rock-A-Thon. We will be sending home a flyer in the next week introducing the Rock-A-Thon to benefit the Shady Grove Scholarship Fund. We are doing the Rock-A-Thon as a different twist to the Talent Show. Please help us get our Cardinal students excited about showing off their moves and grooves on the dance floor. We will also be having other activities at the Rock-A-Thon including special performances and games!!
