President's Message
from Kaje Stuckey
October already! PTA has a great October 20th program planned this month, outlined below. Also, this week only, the cookbook committee is running a week-long contest! E-mail your favorite recipe or recipes and get entered in a drawing to win a FREE cookbook! The fastest and easiest way to get this job done is to e-mail your submission. Or you can print the entry form and send it in though your child's backpack. If you have a few favorite recipes, send them all in! I hope you win!
We are wrapping up the directory data-collection this week. If you have not submitted our new ONE-FORM that has your directory information at the top, please do so. Many already took care of this at open-house or the first week, but if you have not, please print out the form and send it in.
There continue to be many unsung heroes at our PTA -- and I will be highlighting them over the course of the e-mails. I really wish to first thank Melissa Taylor who we all appreciate because she makes sure these blasts are sent in a timely manner. You can also see her fine work on our newly updated website, where everything is catalogued and available for you. Melissa also coordinates the nListHelp listings for the welcome center and the school store including reminding volunteers of their duties. And that is just what I know she does for all of PTA. Thank you Melissa for all your help!

Check Writing Campaign: Thank you to those of you that have donated to the Check Writing Campaign so far, we are off to a great start! Don't forget the contest deadline is November 4th for the extra cultural arts program which will be Deep Run Drum Line held right before Thanksgiving and the class ice cream sundae party. Spirit Nights: Save the date! Our first spirit night of the year and one you won't want to miss! Shady Grove's annual Barnes & Noble Book Fair Spirit Night will be Tuesday December 6th, 2011. The principals, teachers, and administrative staff will be there again in their pj's to read bedtime stories to your children. More information about this will be coming home later in November. Box Tops: Congratulations! Mrs. Marshall's 2nd grade class was the September winner! They collected the most Box Tops for the month and will receive the Box Tops banner outside of their classroom and they will each get a Shady Grove pencil. Keep collecting Box Tops, the next deadline is Oct. 21. The class that has collected the most Box Tops up to that date, will win an ice cream sundae party. Print additional Box Tops Sheets here. Twin Hickory Public Library
Come to the Twin Hickory Area Library (5001 Twin Hickory Road, Glen Allen) from October 1-31 to participate in the "Who's This Author" series. You may win a $10 gift card for yourself and your school's librarian!
For the past 4 years, the Friends of Twin Hickory Area Library have been sponsoring various programs to promote the use and enjoyment of all libraries and make a connection between both school and county libraries for children. Hopefully, you enjoyed last year's Favorite Series Vote program. Friends of the Twin Hickory Area Library is extending to SGES an invitation to participate in this year's "Who's This Author?" series, taking place from October through May.
Beginning October 1st, Friends of Twin Hickory Area Library will hold a monthly series where the students will have a chance to read clues, search the on-line library catalog or work with a librarian to come up with an answer. The students will have a chance to enter their answer, one time, during the month at the Twin Hickory Library. They will provide their name, grade, school, contact phone number and answer. At the end of the month, one winning student will be chosen from the entries. Both the winning student and their school's librarian will receive a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. For more information, stop by the Twin Hickory Library or contact Wendy White at wwhite13@gmail.com. |
