News From SCA
It's time for Maymont's 2011 Animal Appreciation Program! The program, now in its 14th year, represents a special partnership between local elementary school children and Maymont's animals. Each fall, students throughout the greater Richmond region help support the care of Maymont's animals through creative, community-minded fundraising efforts. Our Shady Grove SCA is taking up the challenge and has a fun plan to adopt some of them! Our SCA will hold a one day, $1 spirit day fundraiser to support the cause and other SCA projects. On Thursday, October 7, we'll go WILD for Maymont. All students and staff will be encouraged to go WILD in their clothing selection for the day and wear wild hats, socks, animal prints, and maybe even have some wild hair! Since this is meant as a fundraiser, we are asking the WILD spirit day participants to donate $1 to the cause.

Curious to know what animals are found at Maymont?

The winning class so far for the ice cream sundae party is:  Mrs. Doyle - 4th grade.  This class has the highest number of participation in the campaign so far, no matter the amount of donation.
Many of the classes are running a close race.  So parents, if you haven't participated yet in the Check Writing Campaign and would like to, please send in your donations by Nov. 4th to help your child's class win the contest!

Spirit Nights:  Save the date!  Our first spirit night of the year and one you won't want to miss!  Shady Grove's annual Barnes & Noble Book Fair Spirit Night will be Tuesday December 6th, 2011.  The principals, teachers, and administrative staff will be there again in their pj's to read bedtime stories to your children.  More information about this will be coming home later in November.
