Dear Parents,
Welcome Back! We hope that you had a happy and relaxing Winter Break. The month of January, as always, will be "action-packed" and here are a few highlights to keep in mind:
- With the introduction of online end of the year testing, our May/June HATS/SOL testing schedule will continue to vary from grade level to grade level over a three- week period from May 23 to June 9. To assist you with your family planning, we are sending home the testing schedule for each of your children. This schedule will also be posted on the PTA and Shady Grove websites beginning this month.
- Henrico County Public Schools will collect survey data from parents this month. Please look for the survey to come home soon and help us toward our goal of 100% participation. Your opinion is important to us. We are working hard on the feedback that you gave us last year!
- With the arrival of cold winter weather, traffic on the front loop invariably increases. Please help us move everyone into the school building on time by arriving five minutes earlier than normal, by remaining in your car while your child disembarks on the passenger side, and by pulling all the way around the loop before stopping.
- Each January we ask parents to update their emergency dismissal information. Please help us ensure that we understand where your child should go in the event of an early dismissal.
- Each January we offer two outstanding parent coffee programs. On January 7, come hear Judy Williams, Henrico County's Educational Specialist for Gifted Programs, explain the components of the gifted identification process. Then, on January 28, hear Sarah Moore, School Counselor, conduct an orientation for fifth grade parents on the secondary course planning guide.
We are looking forward to a fabulous 2011. Happy New Year! |
