PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE from Kaje Stuckey
December is a short month for our kids and school. Thank you to all the parents who take time out of your day to volunteer for class parties, reply to the e-mails from your room mom, and donate supplies to the classroom. Our school community continues to thrive because of parents like you.
All families should receive a complementary Shady Grove Directory this week. The PTA provides one per household, and they were sent home through backpacks of your youngest child enrolled at Shady Grove. Special thanks to Lisa Weisner and Susan Schools who facilitated the directory production.
Special thanks also to Theresa Pasini and Clara Pettus who coordinated once again a quality evening highlighting the Reflections artwork at November's PTA evening.
It is time to reflect on the needs of the PTA -- one of the reasons our PTA thrives is due to the talents of our parents. Over the winter break, reflect on a resolution to get more involved with your time at our school. If that includes joining the PTA in a leadership role, please let me know. The nominating committee will be formed after the break to begin work on the 2011-2012 leadership team.
As always, I am in awe of the talents of our children, and the generosity of our parents. Thanks for taking the time to read our PTA updates. |

TALENT SHOW
Talent Show is gearing up for our 11th annual scholarship fundraiser held March 22, 23, & 24; so now is the time to start practicing those acts over the holidays boys and girls! All children wishing to perform must complete an application which will be available on line through the SGES PTA website beginning December 15th and audition their act. Auditions will be held Tuesday-Thursday, January 18-20. Applications are due by the end of the school day, Friday, January 7th. Late applications will not be accepted. We're looking forward to seeing all of our talented Cardinals again this year! |

SGES SPIRIT ITEMS
The red, drawstring, Shady Grove backpacks are now being sold at the school store. They are $5 each and make a great holiday gift for Cardinal students! Limited quantities are available.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
PTA Outdoor Classroom participated in an international garden project called Journey North where students plant tulips as a measure in predicting the arrival of Spring in our town. Thanks to Sally Raderer, our pilot teachers and our dozen volunteers for helping us add this enriching science activity to our school year. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Congratulations to Mrs. Turner's 3rd grade class on collecting the most Box Tops for the month of November. The Box Tops class winner banner will be displayed outside their classroom and they have won Shady Grove pencils. It was a VERY close race this month with two other classes being within five Box Tops from the winner. Great job to Mrs. Arthur's Kindergarten class and Mrs. DiFillippo's 2nd Grade Class. Keep taking the Box Tops Challenge Shady Grove! |
