Cardinal Families once again demonstrated their incredible generosity by helping the SCA raise over $1,400 for the Maymont Foundation. We are very grateful to our SCA sponsors, Ms. Taylor and Mrs. Sanborn for leading this highly successful campaign. It is hard to say what was more fun- Tropical Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, or Tired Thursday (Pajama Day)!
Now we are all looking forward to the following November highlights:
- Parent Conferences will be held by appointment on the afternoon/evening of November 1 and on the morning of November 2. (Shady Grove will also serve once again as a polling place on November 2.)
- Join us on Friday, November 5 for a parent coffee on the topic of Healthy Kids. Our school counselors will share information regarding the Governor's Scorecard for Nutrition and Fitness and the ways in which it is impacting the school program.
- November's parent coffee program will also focus on standardized testing. To make this important information available to everyone, we are holding an evening session on Wednesday, November 17 at 6:30 PM and a morning session on Friday, November 19 at 8:30 AM. Join us to learn about the different assessment tools that we use to evaluate student achievement.
- If your thoughts have already begun to turn to holiday gifts, please mark your calendar for the Shady Grove Book Fair that will be held during the week of November 15. Find that special book that will bring smiles to your children's faces at holiday time!
- There are several student holidays in the month of November. Tuesday, November 2 is a full day holiday and Thursday, November 11 is a half-day for students with dismissal at 11:15 AM. Thanksgiving Break will begin on Wednesday, November 24 with a half-day dismissal at 11:15 AM.
- The first quarter grading period ends on November 10. Teachers will distribute first quarter report cards on Monday, November 22.
November is always a special month at Shady Grove because the theme of gratitude permeates so much of what we do. On the morning of November 11, the children will attend an assembly to recognize the efforts of our veterans who have sacrificed greatly to protect our freedoms. In preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday, classroom activities will give the children a chance to reflect on the many things for which they are thankful. In the spirit of the season, thank you for your unfailing support for our school. Have a great month!
