CPK Spirit Night
Our first Spirit Night is Wednesday, October 6th. Take a night off from cooking and support Shady Grove by dining in or picking up your dinner from California Pizza Kitchen. Get the Official Flyer here that you need to bring in to CPK for SGES to get credit for your puchases. Don't forget to wear your RED Shady Grove t-shirts proudly! After dinner, come up to the school for the Guidance Coffee starting at 6:30.

A Parent's Guide to Bully Prevention
Sarah Moore, our school counselor, is hosting a coffee on Wednesday, October 6th at 6:30 pm. This is an opportunity for parents to learn more about bully prevention at school and how to help our children recognize and stop bullying.

JOIN the PTA If you haven't already joined the PTA, please send in your membership dues ($5 per member). You can use the membership envelope that came home with a flyer about PTA membership or click HERE for the membership form. Our goal is to have 100% membership, which means at least one PTA member per child at Shady Grove. We are currently at 86%, and we need at least 100 more members to reach our goal. One membership costs only $5, but all 100 memberships together provide the equivalent of additional resources for 5 classrooms! SCA Spirit Week Join the SCA in our first service project to support Maymont's Adopt an Animal program and have fun showing your school spirit, too! During the week of October 11th, Cardinals may follow a different theme each day and dress up to show their spirit, all for the low price of $1 per day! Join us on the following days:
Tuesday, 10/12--Tropical Tuesday! (Sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts and leis, beach hats, etc. Sorry-no bathing suits or flip-flops!)
Wednesday, 10/13--Wacky Wednesday! (Go wild and wacky with mismatched clothes and/or crazy hair!)
Thursday, 10/14--Totally Tired Thursday! (It's pajama and slippers day, but wear shoes to school!)
Friday, 10/15--Free SGES t-shirt Friday! (Wear your red SGES
t-shirt, for free!)

VA PTA Proposed Legislative Voting Information If you are a current member of the SGES PTA or any other PTA you are able and encouraged to vote on legislative action items (LAIs) and policy statements (PS) being presented by the Virginia PTA. Please review these items and vote if you did not at Back to School Night. The Virginia PTA will use member votes to decide which issues they will advocate for on behalf of the state.
One main purpose of the PTA is "To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth". While the PTA is political, it is also nonpartisan. We support or oppose legislation, not candidates or parties. Please cast your ballot by taking the survey above by October 15th and we will make sure your voice is heard!!

Martin's A+ School Rewards Program
We are in the process of registering SGES with the Martin's A+ School Rewards program. Once we have completed the process we will send out information on how you can register your Bonuscard to support Shady Grove. The program runs from October 10, 2010 through March 19, 2011, and our school will earn 1% credit of your total purchases.

PTA's Check Writing Campaign
The Check Writing Campaign is in full swing! Thank you so much to all the families that have already sent in their red forms and donations. If you have not already done so, please thoughtfully consider that many of the PTA programs are funded through the donations made with this campaign. This is our major fundraiser and we appreciate ALL of your support. Our goal is 100% participation.
Don't forget to see if your company participates in a Matching Donations Program. By filling out a simple form w/ your company you could DOUBLE your donation to Shady Grove. Here are just a few companies that have matching donations programs: Capital One, Cisco, State Farm, Carmax, Fidelity, Markel, Dominion, Verizon, Bank of America, Altria, SunTrust Bank, and Wells Fargo. PLEASE check and see if your company does too!

If you do not want your child's photo include in the Yearbook, Scrapbook, or newsletter/PTA website return the form by Friday 10/22. Opting-out does not affect a student having their portrait taken -- they can still have their picture taken, we just won't use it in any of the publications |
