Message from President Tom Taylor, June, 2011  Tom Taylor

Oh happy day, summer is upon us and the event season has arrived.  Viking Fest was a huge success and brought a lot of new visitors from all the surrounding communities in Kitsap county.  This year the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce had a fun float in the parade.  We passed out candy reminding folks of our Buy Local North Kitsap campaign.

I'm personally looking forward to the upcoming 3rd of July celebration in downtown Poulsbo.   Organized by Viking Fest Corporation this event will take place at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park.  Please come and enjoy the fireworks the committee has in shore for our community this year. Viking Fest Corporation is still short on sponsorships and would appreciate your contributions.  You make make donations at Viking Bank on Highway 305.  Come celebrate America's freedom.

We are continuing our growth in the Greater Poulsbo Chamber and look forward to even more new business's in our community.  I'd like to send out a big welcome to all our new members this month. I hope everyone takes advantage of our weekly E-Blast out to our members, it's a great way to advertise your business and reach out to the community at large.

The Greater Poulsbo Golf Classic committee is hard at work so this is the time to get your team's registration into the Chamber Officer.  Don't forget the American Music Festival to finish out the summer in September.

I hope to see you all at our next luncheon on June 8th at Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. Have a great month and keep the faith.

Regards,

Tom Taylor, President

Director's Message:
As we move from the success of Viking Fest to SUMMER (we think) we look towards the many other events happening.  We have the 3rd of July celebration in Poulsbo, the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic and the Americana Music Festival.  This is the time of year when we see our tourists come and spend money at our retail members.  We see store fronts filling up on Front Street in downtown Poulsbo, more activity in College Market Place and sun!

In July at our luncheon we will be hearing more about the upcoming Babe Ruth tournament scheduled for 2012 and how that will impact our community.  August we will be updated concerning the mid-year state of our city by Mayor Becky Erickson, plus the results of the special session and budget issues in Olympia by Sherry Appleton.  Both great luncheon topics.

Watch for more information on the Greater Poulsbo Golf Classic in your weekly updates.  This is the time to send in your team's registration or drop it off at the Greater Poulsbo Chamber officer.  The American Music Festival which will be held at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park this year on September 10, 2011.  Look for more information.

Respectfully,
Adele Heinrich, Executive Director

Liberty Bay Botanicals is a shop locally owned and operated by long-time residents Christine & Jim Wingren. Christine's love of botanicals started early with a childhood in Miami Florida surrounded by Hibiscus and fruit trees.  Over the years of collecting books on Herbs and their uses in cultures dating back to ancient Egypt the idea for a business grew.

Originally started as Treasure Cosmetics, a line of all natural body products and color cosmetics, it quickly blossomed into a full line of Herbs, Spices, Teas and Salts from around the world.  A name change later to Liberty Bay Botanicals, it now has over 200 ingredients in-stock and counting.

Many hard to find items such as Herbal Chocolate Chai Tea and fresh blended aromatherapy oils are also on the menu.  Customers can choose from any of our house blends or have their wishes turned into a truly custom product.  We also offer wedding and event favors of dried lavender and rose petals or individual servings of Floral Teas.

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced today the next Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be named the USS John F. Kennedy.

The selection John F. Kennedy, designated CVN 79, honors the 35th President of the United States and pays tribute to his service in the Navy, in the government, and to the nation.

"President John F. Kennedy exemplified the meaning of service, not just to country, but service to all humanity," said Mabus. "I am honored to have the opportunity to name the next aircraft carrier after this great Sailor and inspirational leader, and to keep the rich tradition and history of USS John F. Kennedy sailing in the U.S. Fleet."

One previous ship, USS John F. Kennedy, CV 67, was named in his honor and was decommissioned in 2007, after nearly 40 years of distinguished service, including Operation Desert Storm.

The USS John F. Kennedy and other Ford-class carriers will be the premier forward asset for crisis response and humanitarian relief, and early decisive striking power in a major combat operation. The aircraft carrier and the carrier strike group will provide forward presence, rapid response, endurance on station, and multi-mission capability throughout its 50-year service life.
