Message from President Tom Taylor, May, 2011  Tom Taylor

It's the month of May. Events are starting to happen in downtown Poulsbo and will continue through September.  We have so much more to offer this year with the opening of the new Historical Society Museum at City Hall and Poulsbo Farmers Market moving into full swing.

Take advantage of what we have to offer as a city and allow this chamber to work for them.  We are constantly adding new members and enjoying the new home-based business's that are opening. This economy has been hard to weather and the forecast is still rough, but I'm OPTIMISTIC that we'll pull through just fine.

I hope to see more support from our local businesses by sponsorship some of our local event's and activities that are aimed at bringing in more visitor's to our community as well as improving the quality of life for our local business's.  If you will donate a little to each event, it makes everything easier for the organizers.  We are able put on the best events, and also support good causes in our area.

Right now we are fortunate to see some large companies moving into our area and they help to compliment our smaller businesses.  I'd like to personally welcome Sound View Beverage to the College Park area along with Harrison Medical Center/Cascade Health Partners.

The Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce is currently looking for assistance in putting together a float for the Viking Fest Parade.  We would love to see new faces getting involved in more community events, so come and joins us.  Just call the Chamber office if you would like to help with this project.

We raise our families here so let's get out and enjoy all the festivities we have to offer. Thank's so much for your support and your involvement in the Chamber, the HDPA, and The City of Poulsbo during the 2011 spring and summer festivities season.

Director's Message:
Life certainly does change quickly these days from rainy days to sunshine and smiling faces as they enjoy it all.  Very soon we will hear an announcement about some new projects on Viking Avenue and watch the growth in the City of Poulsbo.  Our Farmers Market is in full swing, with more new vendors each week joining in the fun, especially in this great weather.
The Port of Poulsbo is working towards a busy summer and their property on Jensen will begin developing during that time.
Of course, the big talk of Poulsbo is Viking Fest the weekend of May 20, 21 & 22, 2011 where the amusement center, parade, local vendors and the Sons of Norway special luncheon will all come together for visitors and residents alike.  The merchants of Historic Downtown Poulsbo will have specials and so many great foods to choose from it will be hard to decide what to buy and what to eat.  Come down, invite family and friends from the surrounding areas to spend a night or two at our lovely motels and share in the festivities.

Auto Glass Plus is a locally owned company since 1991.  They have a reputation for safe, clean & leak free installations which has made them the preferred local glass shop.  Your properly installed windshield is a vital part of your vehicles safety system.  They will happily work with your insurance company to get you the quality installation you deserve with two area locations to serve you.

Everest College is a Technical College located in downtown Bremerton across from the ferry terminal.  We offer job placement assistants for life to all of our graduates. As an account representative my job is to develop relationships with local employers to develop new internships sites for our students and job leads for our graduates.

My goal is to meet the needs of the employer by matching students to what the employer is looking for, focusing on soft skills such as personality traits, communication skills, and excellent work ethics. This makes a great partnership between the employers and the college which in return allows our graduates to reach their goals.  We invite our partners to the advisory board members twice a year because your feedback is important to us. Contacting me for all your hiring needs is at no cost and personally tailored to your needs.

We are proud to introduce Amber Dinh as one of our newer Ambassadors for the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce.  She recently joins us from Texas and brings with her a feel for southern hospitality and flair.  She joined the Poulsbo Ambassador program to help bridge the gap between new members and established members.  "I would like to have anyone who is new to the chamber, or thinking of joining the chamber, come to me for a guided tour of what and how we can help your business grow.  Showing how to make the chamber work for you and how to get more out of your membership is my goal."  She is married to Arthur Davis and has a 10 year old daughter, Taylor who is a cancer survivor.  Amber is the Sales and Customer Service Guru for Express Employment Professionals and she covers all of Kitsap County, from Bainbridge Island to Port Orchard.  It's become her mission to ensure everyone seeking work in Kitsap County who is employable find employment in 2011.  I love finding people jobs.  She enjoys experiencing everything Washington has to offer without losing sight of her passion for all things Texan!  She likes it best when she is meeting new people and welcomes anyone who would like to know more about her "Kitsap Mission" to contact her anytime!

So long to our friend Captain Mark Olson, we will miss your boyish grin.   Naval Base Kitsap, will always remember and has benefited from your tenure. The 50-year-old has served here twice, once as executive officer of the Gold Crew of the USS Ohio, based at Bangor, in 1996 and then took over the command of the USS Henry M. Jackson's Blue Crew in 2001. Kitsap has become the small-town Minnesotan's second home.

"The biggest thing, along with the natural beauty and wonderful activities, is I've yet to find a place that supports the Navy better than Kitsap County," said Olson, who has made 64 presentations about the base. "The community and the base are like siblings. We have to live together. What's safe for the base is safe for the community, and vice versa. The community here is one of the most pleasing and satisfying aspects of this job."

Good luck in your future!
