Message from President Tom Taylor, March, 2011
Spring has arrived like a lion with all her ferociousness. We had 4 times the rain as usual this year compared to last, but now it's time to move forward. Our Farmers Market is opening for the 1st time this year on April 9th at 9 a.m. in the Doctors Clinic parking lot. It would be nice to have the biggest crowd ever for the opening day. The Market's activities attract visitors as well as locals to our downtown, and fresh produce shopping!I look forward to seeing you there.
Our chamber luncheon this month is on April 13th at Kiana Lodge and our speaker is Elaine Jones from WSU with the topic being Small Business Development. If you attended last month's luncheon you heard a wonderful speaker on entrepreneurship, Jack Fecker. We have a great line-up of informative and educational speakers for the rest of this year. We look forward to seeing all of you at the next luncheon to network your business. Every chamber member has the same opportunity to network their business but you have to follow your investment.Purchasing a Chamber Membership will net you rewards beyond what you might ever imagine.
This month we are having a change of command aboard our navy bases in Kitsap County and will welcome our new commanding officers. I know for one I'll miss working with Captain Mark Olson and Commander James Travers of Naval Base Kitsap and wish them the best in their new adventures. The military is a very important part of our community and contributes to all of our businesses. Show your support when a military member or family member comes to visit your establishment; take a moment to thank them for their service.
We're coming into festival season, so get ready to enjoy and have a lot of family fun and most of all participate wherever you can. Let's make every festival and event the best that they can be this year. Support your chamber, your city, and all of our shopping and service establishments in Poulsbo. Be sure to invite all your friends and relatives to enjoy our new Historical Museum in the new Poulsbo City Hall.
That's about all I have this month, but would like to express my condolences to the Mark Pearson family as Mark has arrived home with the Father he served his whole life. God Bless.
Regards,
Tom Taylor, President

Director's Message:
The months are getting busier as we get closer to the opening of the Poulsbo Farmer's Market Opening on April 9th. In May is Viking Fest the weekend of May 20 thru 22nd, then the Third of July on the Fjord and the Americana Music Festival. Poulsbo is fortunate to have four wonderful, well planned and well advertised events each year. The members of our Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce get behind all of these events with sponsorships and attendance. For the last few years we have had a downtown street dance that has been well-attended, plus we have many Norwegian festivities at the Sons of Norway. Who could ask for anything more! The Chamber!
We have been actively involved in working on tourism in the last several weeks, and getting the word out that we have many wonderful things to do in our city. For that matter the entire region is well equipped to keep a family busy for at least one whole week. We are encouraging tourist families to come and locate themselves in one of our two great hotels, and travel as far south as Mason County, into Port Gamble and Bainbridge in addition to shopping and fantastic restaurants in Poulsbo. Thanks to our two hoteliers we have been able to offer a great package deal and also an opportunity to win a $500 shopping spree in Poulsbo. Many excited merchants are getting involved because we all know that: TRAVEL IS THE DOOR TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!
So invite your friends, relatives and acquaintances to come and stay in Poulsbo, travel around the region including Kitsap, Mason and Jefferson counties. No where else will you find a vacation that involves so many varied adventures, and so many wonderful memories.

Tawkk.com Daily deals sites like Groupon and Local Twist are all the buzz, but have bypassed places like Kitsap County. This is where Tawkk.com comes in. Tawkk (pronounced like a parrot sound) is based out of Kitsap County and features local merchants. Tawkk launched at the start of March and has already boasted Lucky Star, Cuppa Bella and NorthWest Golf Range. With the cost of gas going up and the movement to buy local, Tawkk allows local merchants to showcase their products and services with a highly discounted certificate on Tawkk.com. The certificates are only available for a limited time. It is a win-win situation. Tawkk only makes money if they sell a certificate by taking a cut, the merchant gets new people in the door, and Kitsap residents get to sample a local business, service or product at a reduced cost.

Victoria McDonald North Kitsap Herald & Kingston Community News, Advertising Sales Consultant
Victoria and her family relocated to Poulsbo from Boston, Massachusetts in February 2010 and began working for the North Kitsap Herald and Kingston Community News as an Advertising Sales Consultant shortly thereafter. Originally from New York, but a 30+ year resident of Port Angeles & Seattle, Victoria missed the Northwest and was blessed with the opportunity to come home to Northwest Washington and jumped right into the community. During her time in Port Angeles, Victoria worked for the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, first as Marketing and Special Events Coordinater, then on to become their Membership Director and Chair of the Ambassador committee. Because of her background, Victoria has maintained a strong connection to the Chamber, and her first stop after arriving was the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce so she could learn more about Poulsbo and what it had to offer her and her family. After beginning with the Herald, Victoria quickly joined the Poulsbo Ambassadors, both as a way to meet new people, and also because of her desire to be more involved in her community. She has since volunteered as the 2011 Co-Chair and Secretary of the group. Victoria is married to husband Sean McDonald, and together they have one daughter, 17 year old Bella, as well as two Boston Terriers, Lily & Baxter, who think they are also human children and not dogs.

Military Corner
Everett, WA -- The Everett-based supercarrier USS Abraham Lincoln recently returned home to a tumultuous welcome from hundreds of family members and supporters after a six-month overseas deployment. The ship and its crew of more than 3,200 sailors have been gone since last fall, supporting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
An Everett-based destroyer, the Momsen, also returned home and a second destroyer in the carrier strike group, the Shoup, returned last week.
The Lincoln has already unloaded its air wing at San Diego. That included a squadron of Prowlers from the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. Some family members traveled with Lincoln sailors on the "tiger cruise" from San Diego to Everett.
The Lincoln has been based at Everett since 1997. The nuclear-powered ship is scheduled to head to Newport News, Va., at the end of 2011 for a three-year refueling
