Message from President Tom Taylor, March, 2011

 Tom Taylor

Here we are again waiting for spring to come and winter to end. It has been a wet winter but a bit warmer than usual. It is time to spring into action and start planning for this year's events and activities that make Poulsbo the place to be. Join a networking group or service organization and get involved with any number of committees that help to attract businesses and tourists to our area. Invite people to do business here and to play and relax here. Your chamber has the ambassadors, military affairs, golf, music festival, and the marketing and advertising committees. The more people who get involved the better all events will be. This is your community, let it work for you.

By joining the Chamber of Commerce you become more involved with your business community and all activities we have to offer. If you send an e-mail to the office you can take advantage of our weekly e-blast that goes to all chamber members. Get involved with the farmers market, Viking Fest, 3rd of July, and any number of events sponsored by the HDPA. We have a great new museum to visit in our city hall and we need to be proud of all aspects of our community. Let's turn this into a breakout year for Poulsbo.

We had a great awards banquet at the end of January where we celebrated the community leaders for the past year. We intend to make this a grand event next year with all your participation. Start now by nominating your choices throughout the year for the different categories of awards. We will send out next year's categories in an e-blast in the following weeks. I'd like to congratulate this year's winners along with thanks to our volunteers, office staff, and ambassadors for all that they do to make everything run smoothly.

Let us assist you in growing your business.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and I'll see you at this month's luncheon.

Regards,

Tom Taylor, President

Director's Message:
I cannot believe that we are already entering the third month of the 2011 year.  Our board is making great headway as we begin the busy season of the year, spring/summer.  There are many events that the Chamber will be involved in this year.  We are again putting on our Golf Classic and we hope that we will have a celebrity attending this year.  Our event will again be held at Port Ludlow Golf & Resort on Thursday, July 28, 2011.  The pro and staff are so good to us, and we have begun preparations.  Soon we will have the flyers out for you to sign up for tee sponsors, beverage cart sponsors, hole-in-one sponsors, and Bay & Olympic Sponsors.  Thanks to Viking Bank, Dan Ryan Construction and Hill Moving who have already committed to their sponsorship for the event.
Next the Chamber will be putting on the Americana Music Festival in Liberty Bay Park in September.  New venue, new ideas and hopefully many more residents and guests to enjoy the fun.  We will have a final date in the next newsletter.
We hope that you have received some of our 2011 Community Guides.  The 10,000 copies we printed are going fast as we have requests for them every day.  If you would like to pick some up or have us deliver some to your business please give a call.
I want to say thank you for all of our board members for their continued support.  Donna and I are actively reaching out for new members.  Our marketing committee is also actively working on increasing benefits for our current members, so watch for some new information on how we can help market your business very soon.  REMEMBER, the key to the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce helping market your business is YOU!  You have to give us the information whether it be a new location, a special project or sale or just changing your name, address, phone or email address.  It all starts with YOU.

Ambassador Corner

My name is Kelly Simkins and I am a Realtor with John L. Scott here in Poulsbo.  I specialize in buying and selling residential real estate.  I've been a chamber member since 2009, and when I joined the Chamber I decided to jump in with both feet and join the Chamber Ambassador group at the same time.  It turned out to be a great decision, and I am proud to be serving as the 2011 Ambassador Chairperson.  The Ambassadors are an enthusiastic group of Chamber members committed to supporting and representing the Chamber and its membership throughout our community.  Our job as Ambassadors doesn't take up a lot of our time, and the business relationships that we create and foster are invaluable to building new business.   We get to help with the "fun stuff" - welcoming new businesses and new members with ribbon cuttings, volunteering at after hours events and monthly luncheons, and we also fill an integral role in special functions like the golf tournament, music festival, and the upcoming military appreciation day event at the fairgrounds.  At the end of the year, the Ambassador that has contributed the most is awarded the "Ambassador of the Year Award" at the annual community awards banquet.  If you're interested in seeing for yourself what we're all about, please don't hesitate to contact me at 360-930-1611 or the Chamber office at 360-779-4999.  Thank you and come join us!
