Message from President Lincoln, November 2010Linda Lincoln

Dear Members,

It has come to my attention that the remarks regarding the membership drive that I made at the luncheon on October 13; have been interpreted to mean that the Chamber is "broke".  This could not be farther from the truth.  Your Chamber is financially healthy and will survive for many years.  We have however experienced a decline in membership renewals which ultimately has an impact on the main income stream for the Chamber.

In 2009 the Board of Directors began the process of establishing goals for the upcoming year (2010); one of the goals was to increase membership by 10%.  The goal was established with numbers based on a membership of 434, with 10% goal the net gain in membership would be 477.  The goals for the Chamber were communicated to you within the first quarter of the year at a monthly luncheon.  Your Board of Directors has periodically reviewed the goals that were set, to measure accomplishments and goal attainment.  As it became clear that we were not going to be on target to reach the membership goal, the idea of a membership drive was conceived.  As your Board President, I did research regarding membership drives with other Chambers across the country.  Historically, the concept has yielded new members each time a drive has been conducted.  I estimate that a drive for the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce would yield 10% growth, which would allow the Chamber to reach the goals that were established for 2010 and have the added benefit of securing a solid income stream for the Chamber.  To date 73 members have not renewed, we have however added 57 new members.  The total net membership as of end of month September is 418.

As we have navigated through very tough economic times, I am certain each and every one of you can relate to the challenges that the current economic conditions have done to your business.  The Chamber and every other not for profit organization have faced the same challenges.  We (the Chamber) are not immune.  It is prudent and fiscally responsible for your Board to manage the assets of the organization.  This first and foremost includes management of finances of the organization; we have been prudent, proactive and diligent in doing our job.

It is my sincere hope that this communication has helped to clarify the comments made on October 13th.  Should any one have further questions I invite you to contact me at lmlincol@timberlandbank.com .

Yours truly,

Linda M. Lincoln, President

Getting to Know our Members

The twinkling lights of the Magnolia Tree... the orange glow of the fire pit tables... the fresh herbs entice your senses as you dine amongst the crackling fire in the fireplace.   A friendly host greets you and introduces you to the wide array of acclaimed wines found in their wine shop....

... This is the beginning of a beautiful dinner experience at Sogno di Vino.

Owners, Rob and Angela Scott, have combined their passion for Italian cuisine with their love of

fine wines to create one of Poulsbo's most endearing dining establishments.  The relaxed style and sophisticated ambience blend beautifully toward their "Sogno di Vino", the Italian words for "dream of wine".

To compliment their dream, Rob and Angela have teamed up with well know local chef, Willem Reinders.  Chef Willem's resume reads like "sogno di cuisine".  Willem has trained in many well-respected hotels and restaurants, such as the Sir Anthony van Dyck in Antwerp, the Hotel Normandy in Paris, The Sorrento Hotel's Hunt Club in Seattle and the Four Swallows Restaurant on Bainbridge Island.  Over 27 years of Willem's experience preparing European and Mediterranean dishes lends to the strength of Sogno di Vino's menu and presentation.

Sogno di Vino current menu features Lamb Ossobucco with Pistachio Mint Pesto... Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic Glaze and Gorgonzola Mascarpone ... and the ever-popular Dungeness Crab Cannelloni.   Pair any entree with a wine picked out from the wine shop.  Each weekend enjoy live acoustic music upstairs in front of the second of two fireplaces.

With the addition of the new "La Terraza" banquet room, Sogno di Vino can host your group's special event, holiday party, wedding rehearsal, etc. for groups between 25 - 50. Features include elegant long dining tables, a relaxing fountain and natural décor with doors to allow for your group's exclusive use and/or privacy.

Whether a tasty lunch under the Magnolia Tree or a beautiful dinner by the fire place, Sogno di Vino invites you to "Taste, Relax and Return ".  Open daily from 11:30am.  Reservations line 360-697-8466.

Director's Message:

Tomorrow is election day and I know everyone will be happy when the tremendous amount of Television Ads have ceased.  The residents of Washington will make their own choices and we will move forward.

This is the time of year The Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce plans for our 2011 Community Guide.  If you are a member of the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce you will be listed in the categorical section and in the alphabetical section.  Those of you who are Patron Members will also have a listing in the Patron section as well.

For the first time ever, we are combining the opportunity to book your ad AND be a sponsor for your favorite Chamber Fundraising event while getting a 5% or 10% discount on the whole package.  So if you were to have a Quarter Page ad for $435 and donated $500.00 to the Awards Banquet, Golf Tournament or Music Festival you would receive a 5% discount ($46.75) off or purchase both for $888.25.  If you were to sponsor one of these events for $1,000.00 you  would receive a 10% discount ($71.75 off for a total of $1,363.25.)  All of this would be billed to you or your company on January 3, 2011 for payment no later than January 30, 2011.  Take the opportunity to get an ad in the 2011 Guide which is distributed to local residents, new Military residents, local businesses and sent to other relocating and visiting families from around the US.  We also share them with surrounding Chambers of Commerce.  So update your listing with our office, be sure your dues are paid in full and get your business name out for everyone!

I would like to say Thank You to all who participated in our Membership Drive on Thursday, the 28th.  So many of our members were able to help and we have decided to continue our drive thru November 30th.  We want everyone to be involved in the 2011 Community Guide!

North Kitsap Schools Foundation is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization formed in 2003 to promote excellence in education in the North Kitsap School District. We believe that excellent public school education promotes a high quality of  life in our community and we know that excellent education is not possible without outstanding teachers. In an effort to help encourage good teachers to come to North Kitsap, and stay,  North Kitsap Schools Foundation has awarded 62 classroom grants totaling more than $20,000 to teachers and staff members for innovative and creative classroom tools and projects.  This programlets teachers know that they are valued and supported by the community.

We also administer post-secondary scholarship programs and special scholarship programs for NK School District traffic safety and water safety education programs. Our largest post-secondary scholarship program is the Alumni Scholarship Program, funded by an annual golf tournament put on by District alums. For more information on all NK Schools Foundation Programs and to learn how to help, please explore our website at NKSchoolsFoundation.org.  We are always looking for volunteers.
