Linda Lincoln

Message from the President, January 2010

Fellow Chamber members, it is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I assume the role as your 2010 President for the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce.  My predecessors (most recently, Marlene Mitchell and Glenn Anderson) have worked hard for the betterment of the business community, it is my hope to continue and honor their work.  As I move forward in my new role, I look towards working to continue to strengthen business relationships, encourage economic development and tourism for our area.

During the December planning session your 2010 Board of Directors met to establish goals for the coming year and beyond.  First and foremost of those goals is to continue growth in membership and find more opportunities to add membership value.  During the planning session for 2010, the Board made the decision to create an Economic Development committee.  The mission of the new committee will be to look at ways to work with the City and all business partners to highlight and enhance Poulsbo as a viable business location.  I would encourage all interested parties to contact the Chamber office to volunteer to serve on this or any of the other committees.

I learned long ago that in order to make a difference a person must become involved.  If I was ever concerned, frustrated or just curious about something I did my best to learn, research and get involved.  I hope as you read this if you have a concern, are curious or frustrated, ask the questions and get involved.  The power of one is great; the power of many is much greater.

I look forward to having the opportunity to know each and everyone of you over the coming year.  I would like to wish you all a Prosperous and Happy New Year!

Yours truly,

Linda M. Lincoln

Getting to Know Our Members:  Meet Janet Dowling, owner of Potlatch Gallery
As an art major I was schooled in art and art history.  In college I worked in the Art Department Office, cataloging slides, exhibits, and hosting art openings.  My art professors wanted me to get serious about making art, which I worked on throughout my life in various mediums.
Although I consider myself an experienced retailer, I have little experience in marketing or promotion, therefore I consider myself more qualified to focus on relevant retail events.  My flair for display and presentation is geared to promote sales.  Presenting a high-end item near a similar but lower priced item can demonstrate without words, the difference between a serious art piece and a piece that will satisfy a decorating look, thereby giving two different demographics the look they want.  By appealing to different levels of buyers, Potlatch Gallery brings people of different shopping needs to the community, who will spend time and money in the area.
I have worked to create a physical storefront in Poulsbo that is unlike any other store anywhere.  By creating a unique shopping experience that sets Poulsbo apart from other small towns, I have helped create an identity that is uniquely Poulsbo.  Customers from all over the world come to our store and delight that year after year we are still here, and still remember them by name.  Frequently visitors comment on the quality of our merchandise, the variety, the uniqueness, and that they come to see us every year.
Potlatch Gallery donates regularly to various charities and auctions, mostly targeting breast cancer, women's shelters, Alzheimer's, any current disaster on the planet, art events and auctions, and many other causes dear to our hearts.
As a resident of Gig Harbor, Poulsbo represents everything a small town should be.  Beautiful waterfront, exquisite shops, great restaurants, scenic parking spaces, eagles flying by, dynamic marina, tons of people, wonderful residential areas.  Incredible incredible  people running incredible businesses..
What is your favorite quotation?  When it quits being fun, quit.

Ambassador Corner - Featuring Donna Strep

Though only serving as a Chamber Ambassador for a few months, I have had the good fortune of working with a great group of volunteers.  Everyone is so willing to give of their time to help at the luncheons, after hours and ribbon cuttings.  What I enjoy most about being an Ambassador is meeting the members and getting better acquainted.  Meeting new members is one of the main reasons I wanted to become an Ambassador.  I feel it is important to make new members feel welcome and I enjoy meeting new people.  The Chamber is a wonderful way to give back to our business community.  This is such a special program in that it makes all the members, but most especially the newer members feel welcome and a part of a very special group.  With a chamber the size of Poulsbo, it would be easy to be overlooked or to feel awkward.  The Ambassadors working alongside of the board members can reach out to more members and make our chamber stronger.
