President's Message
November is the month to be thankful for many things in our business and personal lives. As President of the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce, I have had the pleasure to work with a great Board of Directors. They are individuals who are forward-thinking, positive leaders. We are all lucky to have such a great team. Our Ambassadors have grown in number since their group's inception and they continue to recruit new individuals for their committee. Ambassadors are very valuable to the staff of the Chamber as they give extra time and energy at our various events, helping with check in at the luncheons, greeting members and recruiting for chamber membership. We are extremely grateful for our Volunteers as they answer the phone, greet walk-in visitors, and answer their questions in the office. The volunteers send out information to the leads we receive from our advertising, not to mention the filing, organizing and cleaning that they do. Thanks to Bobbie Fahy, Molly Wagner, Bill Gooding, Connie Tiedeman, Sandy Cutlip, Pat Dibert, Matthew Olson, Dina Penny, Francis Jacobson, Robynn Rother and Valerie Gillas. We appreciate you. It is understood that we are grateful to our paid staff as well. Adele & Constance have really made it a team effort in the office and are always working towards making the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce grow and prosper. Last but not least, we are thankful for our membership, which has grown in 2009. We have been fortunate enough to have new businesses come to Poulsbo and want to join. We have increased the home-based businesses in our chamber as everyone tightens their belts to keep moving forward. As we see the economy strengthen, we are hopeful that we will continue to grow and increase benefits for chamber members. Please check out our Website as some items have changed and new features will be coming soon to increase the value to our members. The Board of Directors and I hope that you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving as we end 2009 and look forward to 2010!

Council Corner:
Friends and neighbors, below is an update on the City's 2009 Draft Comprehensive Plan Update:
The City's Draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan is a policy and legal document that reflects the community's desires, needs and aspirations for the future, all within the context of the goals and requirements of the Growth Management Act (GMA). The Draft Comprehensive Plan consists of three Sections, Section 1: Comprehensive Policy Document, Section 2: Capital Facilities Plan, and Section 3: Land Development Review and Evaluation, plus three Appendices, Appendix A - Technical and Background Data, Appendix B - City of Poulsbo Functional Plans, and Appendix C - Land Development Review. In addition, the Council is considering thirteen Site Specific Land Use Re-designation Applications. The City initiated updating its comprehensive plan in 2007 with a visioning exercise and a community preferences survey. The City also held a number of community meetings to solicit ideas about the City's future growth and development. City Departments also updated all of the City's utility functional plans, its transportation plan, and parks, recreation and open space plan. The culmination of this work, as well as the update to the policy document itself, is represented in the 2009 Draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
The Poulsbo Planning Commission, in its role as advisory body on land use policy documents and regulations, has met since January to methodically review the 2009 Draft Comprehensive Plan. They have identified revisions, modifications and edits to the Plan, and in May 2009 approved to send the Draft Plan into its next phase of public review.
The 2009 Draft Comprehensive Plan has now completed its second phase of public review, by closing the Council Public Hearing public comment period on October 14, 2009. The Council is now in the "deliberations period", where they will discuss any changes to the draft document. These deliberations will consider the results of the public input, Council workshop discussions, and the public input they have received. The Council will be guided in their decision process by four documents: the Planning Commission Recommendations of August 11, 2009, Draft Comprehensive Plan update Adoption Document of August 26, 2009, Public Hearing Response Document of October 21, 2009, and the City Council Modification Document of October 21, 2009. As the deliberations on each topical area are completed, the Council will have the opportunity to vote for approval of that section, and then will make a final vote on the overall document. At this point in time, it appears the Council will be able to approval the final Comprehensive Plan update in November 2009. Dale Rudolph, Council Position #6

Director's Message
As we end our business year the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce is planning for the future. Along with our valued members we have invited new members to join with us in our attempt to keep the business community working toward the future and out of these recessionary times.
We have six new members joining our board as term commitments end for others. This board has brought a new meaning to the words "team effort" and it has been my pleasure to work them. The new board will be just as committed to bringing new benefits and new ideas to the table for our members.
As we have the last two years we are again putting together a 2010 Community Guide listing all of our members and telling the story of "Velkomen" to Little Norway, Poulsbo. So if you know of someone who should be a member of the Greater Poulsbo Chamber and would benefit from representation in the Guide, please give them an application or print one off from our Website. The opportunity to be in the 2010 Guide will end on November 30, 2009 as we get it ready to go to press.
In 2009 we also started a Marketing Coalition to bring tourists to our special Norwegian town. We will be pursuing that adventure again in 2010. This year found our hotel numbers up just slightly and we would like to again increase those numbers in 2010.

Military Corner: Information You Need to Know!
By Tom Taylor - Chairman Military Affairs Committee
This month we had our 1st Business Appreciation at the Admiral Boorda Community Center located at the naval base housing on Bangor base. We had approximately 30 organizations represented with about 80 military families checking out all that we have to offer families in Kitsap County. We had each Chamber offer community guides and maps of each area as well as pointing out all the local business's that offer military discounts. We will be holding these functions approximately 4 times a year. If you would like to get more involved, please contact the Chamber and let us know.
Our next quarterly MAC meeting is coming again in a few short weeks and will be hosted by the Kingston Chamber at a location to be disclosed later. We have made a lot of progress this past year in partnering with the military on numerous occasions. I hope everyone can make the November Chamber Luncheon to learn just how important it is to support our military in this community.
See you there. Tom Taylor
