Quick Note: Look! There are two TREP$ Marktplaces tonight!!
Dear Friends,
We hope this newsletter finds you well. We have been enjoying this season, frequenting as many TREP$ Marketplaces and community craft fairs as we can- shopping for gifts!!
...And then it happened.
We started recognizing kids who we had "spotlighted" as TREP$ in our newsletters... turning up as vendors at area craft fairs! We ran into Tommy, owner of Bookmarks by Tommy, who wrote an article for us last year. Tommy filled us in that over the last year he has sold his very professional looking bookmarks at several vendor markets quite successfully!
We also ran into Abby MacQueen, of AbbyLoo Jewelry, who participated in three TREP$ Marketplaces, year after year. Now Abby is in high school and was a vendor, marketing the line of jewelry she continues to add to, at a Christmas Marketplace for local shoppers.
These are just two of the stories we have heard recently of 'TREP$ continuing their businesses, continuing the learning, the problem solving and the creative and practical pursuit of success. We were very excited to hear their stories, so please keep us updated with yours!
Warmest regards, Pamela and Hayley

Meet Sarah and Kaitlyn, Makers of fine Duct Tape Products.

My name is Sarah and I am 12 years old from Macopin Middle School. I have done TREP$ for the past two years in Elemantary school. So this year I knew that I wanted to do TREP$ but I had no clue what to do. Kaitlyn and I sit next to each other in Science and we knew each other previous to Macopin. She also knew that she wanted to do TREP$ so I asked her what she was thinking of making and she said that she thinking about making stuff out of duct tape. I thought that was a good idea, and since we both didn't want any competiton, we decided to work together. We both already knew how to make a tons of stuff out of duct tape, so we each narrowed it down to two things each that we were really good at making and started making our products even before TREP$ started! As soon as we each got the permission slip for TREP$, we both signed up in a heartbeat.
We were fine with making the products before the due date, our main problem was pricing. So, we serveyed our relatives and classmates for our prices and got really good feedback.
Before the marketplace, Kaitlyn and I decided to advertise around the school for the first few days, and I had brought in some of the bows to show Kaitlyn the bow designs, and the guy who sits in front of me for Science, wanted one and bought one off of me right on the spot. It didn't take long for the other guys to notice and want one, so that night I had to go home and make 10 more bows just for the guys in my Science class!
At the Marketplace, we completely sold out of wallets and flowers, but he big sellers were the bows. I had made about 40 bows and at the end of the Marketplace only 3 bows were left. All the same people kept coming back repeatedly. Kaitlyn had only 2 purses left, but that was all that was left by the end of the Marketplace. After we paid our parents back for supplies and seed money, we each made $56. So now our big joke is "what are we gonna do with all the money? BUY DUCT TAPE!" |
Meet Morgan and Krystal, of Bakery Makery

Our names are Morgan and Krystal. We are 6th graders at Marshall Hill School. We are also the owners of "Bakery, Makery with Morgan and Krystal".
We decided on our business name because of our products. They are whoopie pies and Oreo pops for the "Bakery" part, and bear ornaments for the "Makery" part. It was Morgan 's first time doing TREP$ and Krystal's second time doing it ,but her first time doing it with a partner.
We decided to do the bears because we live in a bear county and Krystal's mom knows how to sew and offered to teach us. We hand sewed the bear ornaments. We made black and white bears so people could have a choice. People kept saying that the bears ornaments looked so amazing and asked if they were handed sewn. It took a lot of time to do the bears but we finally got them done.
Our food products included whoopie pies (chocolate cakes with vanilla in the middle of them) and Oreo pops (Oreos dipped in chocolate) which had designs on them and had different favors of chocolate. We decided to do whoopie pies and Oreo pops because they were unique and different. Also we thought they would sell and we were right! They sold really well. At the Marketplace, people kept saying they love whoopie pies, so they just had to buy one! We guess it was too tempting to say no. People said the Oreo Pops looked cute with the designs on them like smiley faces and snowflakes.
It was hard to set our prices. We sold the ornaments for $2.00 each. At first we were afraid that we priced our ornaments too high but we then saw other people priced theirs that high too so we kept it that price. For the Whoopie Pies we priced them at $2.00 each because it took some time and money to make them and for the Oreo pops we made them $1.50 because they took time and money but still they were small.
In the end we made $110. So we guest a lot of people liked our ornaments and our food products. We had a good time at TREP$ because people bought from us and it made us happy they liked our products.
The most fun part of this experience was working a business with your best friend. We're really hoping that they will remember our business: Bakery Makery with Morgan and Krystal.
