It's the Weekly What? for Friday, August 24th.

It's that time again!

Back-to-school time! Or, as The Hives put it, "Fall is just something grown ups invented." This is the time of year heralded by displays of notebooks and crayons at local stores that will put a booger look on the faces of 'tweens everywhere. But hey! We love the smell of new crayon, the bright yellow paint of #2 pencils, and of course the brand new 3-ring binder with the snappy rings that pinch your fingers (which we've since given up for a boring old padfolio). Won't someone make a Trapper-Keeper for grownups? With puppies on the front?? So until that happens, why don't you amuse yourself with a trip to our Facebook page? Lots more good stuff there! And don't forget to answer this week's question: "What's your favorite part of "Back-To-School" time?"

PSA: Spam comes to text messages.

While the article touts this as an Apple iPhone issue, several of the comments after the article seem to indicate that the problem affects other devices as well. Basically, spam is making its unwelcome way into text messaging. So make sure you take care to consider the texts you receive and don't go clicking on any old link you might see. Spam, spam, spam! >>

Free stuff Friday!

40 free fonts, 700+ icons, and even a handy Adobe Illustrator plug-in! You're set for the weekend, right? Did we mention "FREE"? >>

Vitamin donuts? Wait, what? We want to go to there...

Oh, we see. Vitamin donuts were a product of the age of giving 7-up to toddlers and "doctors" promoting smoking. Such a bummer. Seriously, let's see a show of hands: Who wouldn't love even the thinnest excuse to eat more donuts? Yeah, we thought so! More ancient wisdom: Sugar is a great way to curb your appetite! >>

Share with us! See your name in the Weekly What? and earn undying fame and fortune! (Well, not that last bit, just the fame, okay?) Or, just send us a message saying "hi!" The Writing Room Monkeys would totally appreciate that! Talk back to us and let us know what's up.

PSA #2: How to recognize scam emails

We've seen our share of scam emails and unfortunately have a few friends that have fallen for a few of the relatively harmless ones (that just steal your address book and spam all your friends). We know what to look for but we have to admit that we've seen a few that were darned tricky. Here's a great article in which the author picks apart a typical scam email and reveals all the potential red flags you should be watching out for. (Bottom line: beware of any email asking for personal information.) Oh, and by the way, we've got one million dollars that we need to get out of the country... >>

Mac users! Power tips for Keynote (AKA "Apple's Powerpoint")

We've been focusing on Microsoft's Office products for a while, and while they pretty much rule the cube farms, we know plenty of people that use Apple's equivalents to the Office suite of software. So here's a few advanced tips for using Keynote to create presentations. Use your new presentation powers for good, not eeeevil! >>

How-to: Make your own fun bookmarks!

You're pretty much out of time to finish up your summer reading list. Soon it'll be time to switch back to "Microsoft Office for People That Never Read Instructions" or "Seven More Excruciatingly Boring Habits of Successful Cubicle Neighbors." However... for those times when you do read for fun (or even when you don't) here's a great selection of fun DIY bookmarks. We don't know about you guys, but we're constantly losing bookmarks and often resort to using register receipts or expired insurance cards. Oh, and these are cute bookmarks, too! >>

The Weekly What? is more fun when you share! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below... keep going... a little farther down... there it is! Send this newsletter to a friend! Don't worry, we won't hit them up for money.
