It's the Weekly What? for Friday, August 10th.

No pushing no shoving, we've got plenty of awesomeness for everyone!

We've got an action-packed newsletter for you this week: hovercraft, mad kitchen science, and PR action plans! Yeah! We just included the phrase "PR action plan" in an otherwise fun and exciting sentence! We know, we know: That's like dogs and cats living together. Also: Learn how to control time and space with only a few keyboard shortcuts. (Sorry Mac users, this is for Windows only. You guys will have to wait a little longer.) Once you've squeezed in a full morning's work by lunchtime (Zounds! How these keyboard shortcuts do work!!) stop by our Facebook page to answer this week's question: "What would be the first thing you'd do if you won the lottery?"

Mouse be Gone!

Did you know that you can generally work faster and more efficiently at your computer if you use keyboard shortcuts for common functions and tasks? It's true! (We read that on the Internets so it must be true.) Here's a great roundup of 100 totally useful and time-saving keyboard shortcuts for Windows. Yes, you're more productive, but you still don't get to go home earlier. >>

The Internet isn't all about cats...

Oh no, not even close. In fact, there's a veritable plague of baby photos on Facebook! Some might argue "Yeah, but at least it's a cute plague!" That's no excuse. There is such a thing as "too many" baby photos. Yep. >>

Doodle your way to better information retention!

Oh my gosh, could that headline be any more boring? Plus it's spoileriffic. Anyway, that's pretty much the core idea here: if you doodle out your thoughts while listening to a presentation, you're more likely to retain that information. No, not writing, not words but little pictures. Arrows, squiggles, all that. Yeah, that stuff helps you to process and internalize more of what you're hearing. "Don't bother me. I...I'm retaining information." >>

Share with us! See your name in the Weekly What? and earn undying fame and fortune! (Well, not that last bit, just the fame, okay?) Or, just send us a message saying "hi!" The Writing Room Monkeys would totally appreciate that! Talk back to us and let us know what's up.

Everyone that's awesome has their own hovercraft.

Pirates have them. So do ninjas. With a few inexpensive supplies that are readily available at Home Depot and the like, you too can have your own hovercraft. A little elbow grease, a leafblower, and pow! Like daffodils in the springtime, you've got your bad self floating around on air. Flo-o-o-o-oating! >>

Grow your own rock candy!

This falls into that broad category of "edible experiments." You know, where you do stuff and get to eat the results. Oh wait, we just described cooking. You know what we mean: You mix up things and then watch the reactions. No, that doesn't do it either. Whatever: At least you have to work a little for your sugary treat! Remember kids: It's a "super saturated solution." >>

5 lessons in PR we can learn from a purveyor of poultry po' boys...

You don't need to experience a PR disaster on the scale recently experienced by Chick-Fil-A or the beef industry (think "pink slime") to appreciate a sensible PR policy. No matter the size of your business, even something as small as a single customer service issue can have ripple effects that negatively impact your affairs. Due to the power of social media, you can't hope that things will just go away or blow over. Get your PR and social media policy in place, stat! A secret escape tunnel to a rocket plane isn't a viable option, either. >>

The Weekly What? is more fun when you share! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below... keep going... a little farther down... there it is! Send this newsletter to a friend! Don't worry, we won't hit them up for money.
