It's the Weekly What? for Friday, August 3rd.

Here it is! Dig in.

Yikes! August already? You know what that means, right? Pretty soon store shelves will be filled with notebooks, pens, paper...all manner of "back-to-school" stuff. We're well removed from school, but we can still recall that feeling of creeping dread and the urgency with which we threw ourselves into those last few summer activities. Woah! Hey! We don't mean to be a downer. Sorry! Hey look, the Olympics are going on! Swimming, horseriding, archery, cycling! What could be more summery than that stuff? Let's go throw a Frisbee! Once you've won the gold medal in the intra-office paperclip flip, stop by our Facebook page to answer this week's question: "What's your favorite Olympic event?"

Mind your manners!

You know, it's not all cut-throat ruthlessness at the office. Sometimes nice behavior is called for. For example, when someone is presenting in a meeting, it's totally rude to play "Angry Birds" on your phone and then jump up and scream "Booyah!" when you knock down all the pigs. Totally rude. At least turn off the sound on your phone >>

Here's a few good examples of QR code usage

In the past we've harped on awful, lazy misuses of QR codes. Here's a few implementations of codes that are actually quite good. Remember: to be worthwhile, a QR code doesn't have to be tricky or earth-shatteringly awesome. It just needs to reward the user for reaching out to scan the code. So no lame home pages, okay? >>

Amazingly cool, fun and EASY art project!

You know those styrofoam clamshell boxes that some restaurants give you your leftovers in? What do you do with those things when you're done? Rinse them off, cut them up, and make block prints! You don't have to worry about cutting yourself with a knife or the sweat and toil of cutting into wood (or linoleum tile). Just lightly draw into the foam with a dull pencil, coat with paint, press it onto fun paper and presto! An awesome print to share with friends. Make cards, posters, whatever! Easy peasy! >>

Share with us! See your name in the Weekly What? and earn undying fame and fortune! (Well, not that last bit, just the fame, okay?) Or, just send us a message saying "hi!" The Writing Room Monkeys would totally appreciate that! Talk back to us and let us know what's up.

The unbearable humiliation of truckers

Okay. So there's this truck repair shop. They have a big billboard on their property. One night some ninjas from the advertising company snuck onto the property and changed the billboard to an ad for a "lavish, upscale, and expensive resort" spa. Even worse? The billboard was purple. With "artistic cursive writing." (Oh the horrors!) The truck repair company is now suing the outdoor advertising company, claiming that truckers are offended by the purple and the curlicue text annnnd expensive pampering mud baths*. It's totally against their image and an affront to truckers that must drive by every day. However, there's a little wrinkle. Read on to discover what the owner of the trucking company is up to! "When in doubt, pinky out!" Right? >>

Food tastes better on a stick!

Sushi on a stick. Yay! Pizza...on a stick. Now that's what we call pizza. Chocolate covered bacon on a stick...with sprinkles! No way! Super yay!! Don't forget the stick, otherwise it's just "food." >>

10 business tips you can pick up from the Apple Store

No, #1 isn't "Buy a new MacBook." Apple Stores are apparently the most profitable retailer in the US. Now, you don't have to be in retail or even B2C to benefit from this article. No matter what you do, you're going to pick up a couple of things. Our favorite is #7 "Sell the benefit." Doesn't matter if you're big or small, or sell a product or service; this is certainly one thing you can put into practice. Mohawks? That's up to you. >>

*Fan Dee Bowers suggested that potentially alarming mental picture.

The Weekly What? is more fun when you share! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below... keep going... a little farther down... there it is! Send this newsletter to a friend! Don't worry, we won't hit them up for money.
