Muller Design Studio

It's the Weekly What? for Friday, December 30th.

The end is near! (The end of 2011 that is!)

We had initially planned to dedicate this, the last Weekly What? newsletter of the year, to various New Year's-related crafts and other home-made treats. However, once we started doing some research, we were startled to discover there really isn't much associated with New Year's except for watching people in New York City party it up in awful hats. Upon reflection we've realized that if we had just done our homework (so to speak) we would have realized this and been able to prevent this wreck of a newsletter. So now we dump it, in all it's disjointed and scatter-brained glory, squarely in your lap. Do with it what you will. Whatever you do, please stop by our Facebook page for more link-fun and take a moment to answer the Weekly What? question: "How will you ring in 2012?"

We'll see you there!

Really quick: Muller Design Studio will be closed January 2nd in observance of New Year's. We hope you all have a fabulous 2012!

Last chance to see the back-catalog of MDS holiday videos...

...before they become really out-of-season. And no, these aren't stale, boring things with just our logo spinning around and bursting into flames or something like that. There's drama. Raw emotion. Excitement! Thrills! Surprises! We've recently converted all of our holiday greetings animations into a more YouTube-friendly format. Go check out the MDS YouTube channel and take a look before the New Year gets here. Pop some popcorn! >>

Usher in 2012 with a jazzy new Chan Luu-style bracelet!

Here's a hot item from our resident Fashionista: It's a Chan Luu-style wrap bracelet. Hey, you're not doing anything Saturday afternoon, so make up a few of these and share them! Simple, with just the right amount of jazzy-doo! >>

A winter wonderland, circa 1948

As we're sure you're all familiar with, the winters around these parts tend to be soggy and muddy. No snow at all. Since winter is now most definitely upon us, please take a moment to enjoy this idyllic depiction of winter-time fun. Wouldn't it be fun, for just a day, to look out the window and see the landscape blanketed in snow and the cars doing pirouettes on the street? Snow day!! >>

When those old lightbulbs burn out, don't toss 'em. Reuse them!

We understand if your initial reaction might be puzzlement. "Reusing" and "lightbulb" aren't two concepts that seem to go well together. Take a look at this amazing collection of reused lightbulbs. The tiny terrariums are really charming! The real trick may be disassembling them! >>

Organize your life in advance of the new year

This was really meant for those of us unlucky enough to be stuck in the office during the week between Christmas and New Year's. But hey! You can certainly still apply these life and work optimization tips any time! Time to start dressing like a winner! >>

The "Venetian Blinders" sunglasses make a comeback!

Here's a rather smartly designed poster providing a look at the various styles of eyewear worn by cool guys over the last 100 years. Gandhi. Andy Warhol. Geordi LaForge. Napoleon Dynamite. They're all here and represented by the glasses/sunglasses/whatever that made them cultural icons.* With eyeglasses like these, you know you're cool >>

A really cool glow-in-the-dark Aurora Borealis poster

Unfortunately this poster was part of a very small screen-printed batch but it's a great concept and a beautiful design. While there, don't miss the link to the artist's Facebook page where you can get glimpse into the making of the poster. Pretty pretty! >>

Free fonts! Classy fonts! Free, classy fonts!

Here's a pretty nice selection of free fonts culled from all points of the Internet, suitable for all sorts of uses. And they're free! (Oh, we mentioned that already, didn't we?) Did we say "free"?>>

Startling, amazing "forced perspective" photographs

"Forced perspective" is a visual technique that fools your perceptions. It's also a fancy name for that trick where you hold your thumb and forefinger up really close to your eye and pretend to pinch someone's head. There are actually a couple of examples of just that trick in this gallery but there's also lots more really cool, brain bending photos to see. Up is down! Near is far! Oh my eyes! >>

The woven map basket

A woven basket to hold your stuff. Eeyore knew just how useful empty containers can be. Now make your own! You can use just about anything, but maps are inherently interesting and provide the sort of detail that works well at small sizes. Just don't make these underwater! >>

Before we forget: You simply MUST stop by our Facebook page to get a glimpse of the lesser-spotted MDS Mascot in all his three-dimensional, real-life... realness!

* Yes, we're being a bit snarky about the whole "cultural icon" thing.

Share the holiday fun with a friend! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below. They'll be glad you did!
