It's the Weekly What? for Friday, December 9th.
It's beginning to look a lot like... that time of year!
We're seriously getting into the swing of the holiday season. Truthfully we're just looking forward to repeated viewings of "A Christmas Story." Oh yes. Pink Nightmares, Red Ryder BB guns, Major Awards! We can't wait! Sorry, we got a little carried away. Anyway, back to business. We've rounded up a few seasonally-appropriate crafty things for you to try out, the typical fun stuff, and even some actual businessy links! Make sure to stop by our Facebook page for all the extras that we couldn't make fit in the newsletter. And... take a moment and answer the Weekly What? question: "What was the first job you ever had?"
We'll see you there!
One of the fun things about this time of the year is making cool things for people you like (or even people you don't know).
We can hardly be accused of being early, but you've still got a few weeks to create a few special DIY gifts. Here's a few things to get you started: This is a really neat idea for making some Scrabble tile beverage coasters. Who wouldn't love to receive a set of those? Scoring high on the "Kitsch Factor" are these candy cane candlesticks. It's like two gifts in one! When the candle melts down, the recipient can peel the plastic off the candy canes and eat 'em! How about some super-cute monogrammed felt ornaments? Hey, we bet you don't have to use felt. You could probably adapt this idea to just about any kind of material! Okay, this next project is a little funky, but apparently crafty folks use it all the time. Decoupage. It's apparently just a watered down glue-type stuff with a weird name. Anyway, this DIY decoupage is really really easy to make. Finally, here's an idea for making your own fancy-pants snow globes. Just toss some bric-a-brac in an old jar with some glitter and boom! you've got a hip snow globe. Well, it's a bit more complicated than that really, and the end results will probably look pretty nice. Give it a try!
Yes Lord Vader, I've reached the main fruitcake.
Star Wars and Christmas go together like peanut butter and chocolate so we're all for any combination of the two. Like this gingerbread AT-AT! Licorice armaments, little candy details, and who's that dangling underneath? A little gingerbread Luke Skywalker! Stomp stomp >>
It's an "8-bit" holiday!
This is a fantastic stop-motion animation that will speak to anyone that played video games in the '80's. Or anyone that likes LEGO. ("8-bit" references the low-resolution and limited color graphics of those early games.) Watch! >>
Give a child's drawing to a professional illustrator and this is what happens...
Illustrator Dave DeVries wondered what a child's drawing would look like if it were painted realistically. His niece would leave drawings in his sketchbook, so one day he decided to go for it. Here's the results... Go look! >>
Learn how to leverage your value-add synergy in an advanced "go-to-market" paradigm shift without experiencing end-user disconnect.
Say what? This guy has had it up to here with all the crazy business-speak. Abstractionitis, acronyms, "Valley Girl 2.0" and overused meaningless expressions. Give this article a quick read and pay attention to what's said in your next business meeting. No snickering though! Thought Leaders! >>
Scooby Doo! Where are you?
While going through this gallery of an abandoned amusement park in New Orleans, we kept expecting to see Scooby Doo, Shaggy and the rest of the gang lurking in the background. It's interesting how easily a place for fun can turn creepy. Let's all hop in the Mystery Machine and go check it out!>>
Did you know that L.L. Bean is not in the business of selling outdoor clothing?
It's true! The same applies for many other companies. Here's a great video featuring Graeme Newell (an "emotional marketing" expert) explaining how, basically, a company is in the business of selling lifestyles. Watch this video, then pay attention to the commercials you see on TV and see if you can decipher what's really being sold. Outdoor clothes... for sitting on the couch >>
The problem with delegation.
Our friends over at The Zella Company have posted a great little article about how being able to delegate tasks effectively is key to office productivity and more personal time for "Plants Vs. Zombies." You there! Get busy! >>
This is what brainstorming looks like:
If you were ever to drop by our studios unannounced and discovered us just sitting around staring off into space, don't be alarmed. We're not doing nothing, we're actually working! Here's a hilarious scene from the TV show "Big Bang Theory" that kind of shows what it's like when we're doing the conceptual "heavy lifting." "Let's buckle down and get to work." >>
