It's the Weekly What? for Friday, August 19th.
One size fits most.

Quick, summer's almost over, do something!

It's strange to think that we can be in the waning days of summer when it seems like we only just started consistently breaking 80 degrees outside. Oh well. The start of school is approaching and there's not much we can do about that. However, our resident CraftMeister has rounded up a passel of crafty activities for you to cram into your final days of summer so you can feel like you're at summer camp until the bitter end. Really. It IS still summer vacation. It IS!! Or you could work on your sunburn. Whatever. Be sure to visit our Facebook page for even more fun things to do and see. While you're there, be sure to answer the Weekly What? question: "If you could own one article of clothing from any movie, what would it be?"

We'll see you there!

You get what you pay for and sometimes you get even more than you expected.
Like a lawsuit!

Well, maybe not a lawsuit, but at least a "cease-and-desist" order that would prevent you from using your shiny new cheap logo. Recently an online do-it-yourself logo creation service was exposed as having stolen many logo designs from professional designers. One could even buy the World Wildlife Foundation's panda logo! While this is the most egregious example of the perils of purchasing a logo from an online logo design service, this sort of thing is unfortunately all too common. Read more >>

While we're on the subject of the dangers of cheap design, we'll link to one of our earlier blog posts discussing the issues facing cut-rate web site design. Read more >>

How about some "plein air" fingerpainting?

"Plein air" is fancy talk for "outside." Get barefoot, get outside, and get fingerpainting. Here's an "easy peasy" recipe for homemade finger paints. Remember: when you finger paint "plein air" you have to stick your pinky out. Otherwise you're just painting outdoors. Go do it! >>

Dress up your car... with beads!

Yes, really, but only if you have tons of time and a very steady hand. And an umptybillion beads. While primarily an inspirational piece (don't take it through a car wash!), this VW Beetle covered in beads is amazing to behold. Go take a look! >>

Awesome, must-have accessory for your next barbecue.

We're talking about ketchup dispensing robots, of course! However, describing them as simply "dispensing" ketchup is to engage in understatement. These 'bots are awesomely blasting ketchup! Ka-pow! Splat! Who wouldn't love having ketchup blasted at their hot dog from across the table? Prepare to be assimilated >>

Homemade junk food

Here's a how-to for "homemade Hostess Cupcakes." Yep, the little chocolate cupcakes with the white squiggle of frosting on the top. The best part about these cupcakes is that they're sooo labor intensive, you'll have burned off enough calories to offset eating as many as you can make! Go look >>

Paint sample coasters!

Step one, get to your local paint store or hardware mega-depot and snag some paint sample chips. (Not too many! Or store security will totally swarm all over you!) Step two, make them into cool, arty (and dare we say "hip") coasters. Step three, invite your friends over and serve drinks in tall glasses that sweat a lot. Give it a try >>

Super crafty! A solid perfume pocket watch!

Okay, this gets super style points. Not only does the old pocket watch look cool, you'll stun everybody by informing them that you MADE the perfume encased therein. Pinkies out! Smell the awesome >>

Make this jazzy "bangle" out of some stuff you've probably got just laying around.

"Bangle" sounds way more fun than "bracelet, wouldn't you say? We'll finish up with a quick-n-easy craft project for you. About the hardest thing about it will be getting ahold of some clear aquarium tubing. Everything else, though, you're sure to have just laying around. A hazy shade of summer >>
