WIth less than three months until the Games, we still need hundreds of volunteers and host families.  Click here to register.  We are in particular need of help during the days to serve lunch at the JCCs, chaperone the Day of Caring and Sharing activities and greet at sports venues.  Whether you have a few hours, a day or the entire week, we need your help.  Please ask you friends, family members, neighbors, etc to pitch in and make this a resounding success for our community.

Honor Your Athlete with a Mazel Message in the Souvenir Program Guide
 
A Mazel Message is a personalized message of about 30 words that will appear in a special section of the souvenir program which will be distributed at Opening Ceremonies.

Friends For a Week Become Friends For Life
 
On any given day, you might see Rich Cohen and Matt Jacobs in a Manhattan coffee shop, talking and laughing together as any pair of good friends would do.  You might imagine they met at work or at college. But these two 20-something business professionals share something very unique - they met as teenagers a dozen years ago, playing basketball together in the JCC Maccabi Games, and forged a friendship that is sure to last a lifetime. Today they live within five blocks of each other, connecting daily by phone or in person.  Their parents also share a special bond of friendship that formed as spectators and supporters of the Maccabi Games.  And, like many other alumni parents, the two moms are planning to help at the 2009 JCC Maccabi Games.
 

Inspired by legendary youth basketball coach Mark Berkowitz, a Maccabi mainstay whose recent passing has saddened many alumni, Rich and Matt will coach Westchester's basketball team in the Games this summer. "One of the main reasons we came back (to coach Maccabi) is because of the experience we had with our coaches, Mark Berkowitz and Stan Pluchik," said Matt. "I am excited to give back to the experience that has meant so much to me." As coaches, both are eager to give young athletes a similar sense of accomplishment and camaraderie - and surely, some life-long friendships will develop among the new generation. More

Alumni Event Planned for this Sunday, June 7th
 
Calling all JCC Maccabi Games Alumni. A special alumni reconnection event is planned for Sunday, June 7, 4:30-8:30pm at the JCC of Mid-Westchester.  A special tribute basketball game will be played in memory of long-time JCC Maccabi Games coach Mark Berkowitz.  Join other alums for a great day of competition, food and fun.  Contact Adina Goldman for details

All Medical forms must be submitted to Joanne Citrin no later than June 15.

Athletes - SELL YOUR RAFFLES
 
All athletes were given books of raffles at their orientation meeting.  Raffles are a great way to offset the cost of participating in the Games, and you, your friends and family can win some great prizes!
