Impactful Program Planned for Day of Caring and Sharing
The 2009 Westchester JCC Maccabi Games Day of Caring and Sharing committee will be working with the American Friends of the IDF to create an interactive program with Games' athletes and soldiers currently serving in the Israeli Defense Forces. Athletes will have an open forum with the soldiers to discuss the differences between American and Israeli training for Army service. All athletes will then participate in a Krav Maga training session led by the professional staff of Steve Sohn's Jujitsu Concepts Krav Maga Regional Training Center at the Westchester County Center. Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces. With the assistance of UJA-Federation agencies, various groups of athletes will also interact with children from local shelters, hospitals, JCC's and Gilda's Club in a hands-on workshop led by The National Circus Project. Our athletes will participate together with these children in juggling, balance and other hand-eye activities.

Ann & Jim Fuchs: doubles partners in sports and life... By Debbie Anders After 29 years together Ann and Jim Fuchs are one of those couples who seem to finish each other's sentences. And that's probably a good thing. Because as co-chairs of the 2009 Westchester JCC Maccabi Games, their job is to make seamless the multitude of tasks involved in helping oversee one of the biggest youth sports events of its kind. And like the games themselves, their story spans the hemisphere and touches the lives of the hundreds of athletes they meet. If sports is the universal language, then their dedication speaks volumes about teamwork and leadership. The Fuchs have a home-court advantage. As summer camp consultants, their business allows them the flexibility to work from offices in their house. Their track record with summer teen programs has proven invaluable for the bevy of demands and details involved in planning and preparing for this Olympic-style sports competition.
