Over 50 Organizations from Across Westchester Participating in JCC Maccabi Games
The Jewish community has come together loud and strong in support of this summer's Westchester Games.
Over 30 local synagogues have signed up to help create awareness of and participation in the Games. Each synagogue's liaison serves as a point person between the Games organizers and their Congregation. To find out more about how your synagogue may be participating, contact your liaison. Click here for contact information. Individuals are also welcome to volunteer. Click here to find out more.
In addition to our synagogue partners, UJA-Federation of New York is both a major financial sponsor, as well as a communications outlet for creating awareness of the Games. The Westchester Business and Professional Division of UJA-Federation of New York is working to help identify and expand corporate donors. The Westchester Jewish Conference is also spreading the word about the Games via their website, email blasts and at events.

Homestay with JCC Maccabi Games Athletes One of the most memorable aspects of the JCC Maccabi Games is an athlete's stay with a host family. Over 1,400 athletes are coming to Westchester this summer and we need 700 host families to house them.
It's not all about competition at the JCC Maccabi Games- food, rest and sleep are essential for the young athletes, and that's where host families come into play. For former JCC Maccabi Games athletes Jake Gorobetz and Ethan Zombek of Scarsdale, host families offered a welcoming and restful respite. Gorobetz had three very different host families for the Games in Detroit, Vancouver and Orange County. "They were all very accommodating," he recalls. "I did not even have to ask for food - they just offered it. They treated me like my own parents, met my needs, and I was very happy."
Initailly, Zombek thought that staying in a host home might be awkward. But he soon learned to apprecitate and trust his hosts: a Vancouver couple who were both fun and supportive. "They cheered me up if my (basketball) team didn't do well," he recalls, "and they celebrated with me when we won the gold medal. More
