Our Rye Loaf
For those of you who are yet to try our Rye loaf, you don't know what you are missing. This really has been quite an achievement. While it has no Rye in it, it tastes and has the texture of a good German Rye loaf with no compromise whatsoever. It even gets better with age. It is good when it is fresh, its great day 2, and fantastic day 3. If you haven't tried it yet it is a must, and with the way it ages, it is an ideal bread for shipping.

The Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar (Easy Gluten Free Dining) (Rita & John at the Gristmill Restaurant) Rita and I just have to share this with you, on account of the fact that you might like to eat somewhere other than with us, don't get me wrong we Love having you and feeding you, but we also like to eat somewhere else occasionally, but we don't often recommend places because most places don't handle the whole gluten free deal very well even if they say they do. One of our customers, Tim Conway manages the Gristmill in Gruene, and his wife Megan happens to be gluten intolerant. Tim and I had an email exchange over an order, and it came up that they had been working on identifying the items on their menu that were gluten free, and producing a detailed list of what is gluten free. Of course we couldn't help ourselves, the next day off we had, Rita and I went out to Gruene and were very pleasantly surprised. The waiter did not necessarily know much about gluten, but he easily found the list and we enjoyed wonderful food in a lovely setting, and great service. We both ended up having baby back ribs which were gluten free and delicious. I even had a second helping, which I can't remember ever doing. So if you are looking for some place to eat where you can be gluten free with a minimum of fuss and drama, try the Gristmill. Click Here for their website

Gluten Free Info Gem People with gluten intolerance, or Celiac disease are really very fortunate people when compared to many other health issues out there. There are no expensive medication regimes, no drastic surgeries to maintain a healthy life. The cure is pretty simple: maintain a gluten free diet, and really how hard can it be when you know that all meat is gluten free, all vegetables are gluten free and all fruit is gluten free. Lets face it, if we kept our diets as simple as that we would be leading a pretty healthy life. Click Here for more information.

Christmas Pies We have a delicious range of fruit pies for Christmas, Rita started making them the other day, the pie pictured is a cherry pie, and it was devoured by staff within 15 minutes of getting out of the oven, hot and with vanilla icecream. I could barely get this photograph with out hands in it, and then the scene at the table was something else, thankfully we only had regulars in the shop, if we'd had any newbies we would have scared them off for sure.
If you need lactose or dairy free don't forget to ask when you order.

Our Breads
Golden Flax Bread This is our regular house bread it's a savory bread, the same that we use for our delicious sandwiches. It's light, it's fluffy it's nutty in taste and soft in texture. It's flavor is derived from the fresh golden flax seeds that we grind into it every day. It is low in sodium, and low in sugar. It comes in loaves, hamburger buns and pizza bases.
All of our breads, can be sliced, wafer thin for sandwiches,or chunky thick for toasting. They don't crumble before or after freezing. They make excellent croutons and is second to none for french toast.
Raisin Bread This is a sweet bread that comes in a full size loaf or a bun. It is best described as a breakfast bread. It is lightly sweetened, and also comes with an abundance of raisins.
Rye Loaf
Of course this doesn't have any rye in it, but we messed about with other names, and decided that a rye doesn't taste like rye because of rye, it tastes like it does because of carraway seeds, so lets just call it what it tastes like, and it absolutely has the taste and texture of a German Rye bread, it has to be tried to be believed.
